I am looking at a Resale where the unit converts to 110000 RCI points. I know there is no specific answer but I was wondering on average if I got Hotel style or Studio places approximately how Many weeks would that translate to? Let’s say going to Cancun or Florida during peak and off seasons.
General idea if this number of points will bring 1 or 3 weeks on average type thing.
Thanks.

Conservatively, with 110,000 RCI Points you should reasonably be able to get 3 weeks in both of those locations. Say you took advantage of some 7500 point weeks (+ exchange fees), you could do 10 weeks, &, have points left over. ;)

Then this is good news. Well less fees. But one expects to get nickeled and dimed to death with fees. Sort of goes with the territory. Now wonder if they have a book called RCI for Dummies? Knowing how to Work fees when to book will be the difference.

Yea I agree so far so good. Was once shying away from RCI but now warming up to it. I like the simplicity HGVC points system as it is easy to understand but seems limited. Just my general impression based of what little knowledge I have gained so far. One nice thing I am in no hurry to buy when the right deal comes across I will know it is and act swiftly.

I think if you plan carefully, can stay in an occasional studio and don't need to stay in Gold Crown Resorts, you should no trouble getting 8 weeks from 110,000 points, especially if you watch for sales where the number of points required are reduced. We have 77,000 RCI points and always have no trouble getting between 3 & 5 weeks by staying in 1 bedroom units and travelling in shoulder or off season (ie; FL in the fall). When searching on RCI, I always look in the "7 Night Exchanges under 10,000 Points" section first. Most of the units there are studios but I have seen 1 and occasionally a 2 bedroom unit. Those can be booked many months in advance unlike the exchange vacation deals which are usually a shorter time frame. As mentioned above every exchange has a fee so that cost adds up where as when you use all your points for 1 stay you would only have 1 exchange fee.

When looking at resorts in Cancun read the fees section carefully. Many resorts are mandatory All Inclusive and those fees can be well over $100. per person per day which when combined with your exchange fee and the use of your points can end up being a very expensive week. You will also need to factor in airfare and transportation to/from the airport. We are Canadian and have found with our expensive airfares (we, personally, don't have any frequent flyer programs) we can book an AI vacation, including airfare and airport shuttles, for almost half of the cost of just the AI fee when booking through RCI. YMMV.

Thanks this is very helpful information and great tips. Very good point on Cancun. I ran into that when evaluating HGVC. They have a Cancun resort but it is all inclusive and a extra 340 a day (for 2). I was to hell with that. I need options that don’t include all inclusive and a kitchen would be great.
Diane again thanks very helpful.

You can check the option of no AI resorts when searching for Mexican (or other) resorts on the RCI website. I have looked several times and usually find one but then the unit has a mini /partial or no kitchen. Some of those resorts in the Cancun/Playa area are a long way from shops or other restaurants if you want to buy groceries or eat at different locations. We usually stick to resorts in the continental USA and more so, the ones we can drive 1500 miles or less to.

Maybe the answer is to get a home resort in Mexico where AI is included. A man can dream.
