I searched RCI for availability for Aruba, St Maarten, & Barbados for next year.
I noticed some resorts are available only if you pay the high fee, not available with TPU's....what is going on?

Probably means there is more demand than supply for exchanges and the few units that are deposited don't sit around online waiting for someone to take them. Most are probably taken by ongoing searches with nothing left over to appear online.

High price rentals on the other hand have more supply than demand and sit online.

I am pulling 31 resorts - out of the 31 resorts, 4 resorts are only available by paying. The rest are available by using TPU's
As an example Divi Southwinds in Barbados has 46 units available between Oct. 10/15-Dec. 10/16 - the units are only available with a fee of $1219. - $1799.99
The Crane has 10 units available from Oct.3/15-Nov.14/15 for a fee of $1539. - $2429
Another Divi that we went to in Aruba with TPU's is now only available by paying a fee of $1459.99 - 1949.99 and that resort has 38 units available between Oct 10/15 - Dec10/16
Perhaps there is a glitch in the system??
I will call RCI tomorrow to find out what is going on.

There are often resorts available only by rental, and not for exchange. There are several reasons for this. Some resorts use RCI as a rental channel for inventory that they own---either unsold or returned to the resort---to monetize it and defray costs for owners. RCI is also allowed to swap inventory between the rental and exchange pools, more or less at its own discretion.

You can call RCI, but you are unlikely to get what you are hoping for---the ability to exchange into a resort with only rental inventory.

There are only 25 resorts available this morning, compared to 31 yesterday.
There are none this morning that have a fee attached.....
