I believe RCI probably has a Canadian incorporated subsidiary to which it assigns all Canada based accounts.

I was a commission sales rep for a company that had that structure.
Netflix Canada is an example - you pay in Canadian dollars and as of July 1 2021 you pay federal GST and provincial HST .
They may have an incorporated subsidiary, but they do not list a location or address for a Canadian office, or they don't want us to find it. Some of the services they provide Canadians do not appear to be GST taxable, according to GST digital guidelines. More to come.

You obviously need a fake US address for your dealings with RCI!
I have challenged RCI about their ludicrous policies for weeks now, but dealing with a customer care employee who is not qualified for that dept.. Posting to come....I processed 2 transactions in Dec. of '22 with my US$ c/c, and as I recall I did not advise them it was a US$. I did a transaction a month or so ago, and when I asked to use the US$ c/c they refused it on the grounds they had to charge GST, so payment had to be in CAD.
I spoke with a GST agent in Ottawa a week ago and he has recommended those of us who are concerned about this fiasco to request a rebate on a couple of transactions in in order to obtain a ruling on legitimacy of GST charges. He regards the GST charges as not legit if the resorts are out of the country; he's not sure about CAD resorts, but he thinks that could also be the case.

I discovered RCI Canada ULC in Saint John, NB, using a Google street view map, has a double sign on a building, above their suite address, reading: Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Canada, Wyndham Worldwide Operations Centre. All the D&B listing data for RCI Canada is locked. They are not making supplies in Canada, RCI Canada is used strictly for their US tax benefits. If anyone takes an opposing view to this conclusion, prove it to me. All their "products" bought by Canadians are the result of "digital" transactions originating in IN. They have no additional costs incurred in selling to Canadians. They are gouging us with conversions, padding the converted dollar figures as much as 20% to justify their "fake "costs, and inflating their fee schedules, all in the name of justifying their obligations to charge us GST, mostly illegit. A work in progress; anyone care to help? RCI was sued in a class action lawsuit in 2007, ran to 2012 as I recall (for pulling prime resort time out of customers' inventory).

I bought a product online from NC 2 weeks ago, was advertised in CAD & US prices; asked to pay in US$, no problem, and the GST amount they charge to CAD customers they actually charged in US$. I advised CAD$ for GST was ok with me., but they said "no problem", US $ is ok. Their accounting/payment system automatically converted the CAD GST amount to a US dollar amount. That's how the smart and ethical retailers work.

Around the globe, people in different companies pay different prices for the same goods and services. It is called regional or geographical pricing.
Countries protect their tax revenue and companies protect their bottom lines.
With the internet, it's easier to spot regional pricing and no one likes to find out someone else is getting a "bargain" while you are paying more. However, that is the system that is in place.
You might be surprised to learn that lots of Americans go to Canada to buy prescription drugs because they are so much cheaper.

We are seriously thinking of going that route now that we have taken over (stopped renting out) our condo. We have a US Cell number that we only use during the winter then it gets suspended (ported to Number Barn) while we are back home. We would likely need to pay a new member fee to RCI for a new account. Our current membership expires next May. We will do some more investigating while we are down this winter.

~Diane
you dont need a new rci account you just change your address

How about open a new membership with your US address? If you need a US phone number, get a Skype number in the US. After you use up all your deposits in the old account, let it expire.

Another option is to simply tell RCI if they are going to play those games, you will just start giving your deposits to a different exchange company like SFX.
just change the address on your current account no need to start a new one

just change the address on your current account no need to start a new one
I've tried, RCI wont let me change my ON address to my FL address. I might need to change info on our deeds first, then re-register them with RCI. I'm still checking into it.

I believe you may have missed the point I was making about GST charges. (Not sure why you posted the RCI fees?) I was a GST registrant for 30+ years; owned T/S since '95 in MX, USA, and Canada. Many of the members assume that GST is always applicable, when in fact it is not. You and others may find my post today of interest. Anyone fed up with the gouging, and wanting to learn more, will find useful information at "Government of Canada, Cross-border digital products and services".

Not surprised, I am well aware of that having lived in Canada all my life, but that is not a true example of geographic pricing. It is related to socio-economic policies of the respective governments, and corporations. As for T/S, the North American market (incl MX) for exchange related services is not that competitive considering market sizes and inventory. With RCI, the issue is gouging, and even restrictive trade practices. Have you ever had an American c/c merchant refuse your US$ card? Fees for digital services in N/A are structured in IN; there is no direct additional cost to implement CAD fees digitally, other than programing original fee schedules. I know, I operated 2 e-com websites. If you don't mind paying in CAD$, plus an obscene markup over and above an already inflated fee, go at it. Our funny money doesn't go that far outside of Canada. RCI accepted US$ payments from us a year ago (2 transactions) and now suddenly they won't. But that has nothing to do with the fact they want (obligated, they claim, on all transactions) to charge GST. They have to submit any GST they collect in an approved manner to GST, in CAD$. A guess that their accounting department can't handle the task, i.e. allow us the option to pay them in their currency, if we so choose Not all transactions are exigible, and research to date indicates a majority of transactions are exempt, according to GST.
