RCI Unit Upgrade Request - Resort Change

I am trying to better understand how the RCI request for an upgrade works. Best to use an example. I have Resort A booked for a June 15 check in and I request an upgrade to Resort B if available. Will RCI automatically upgrade to Resort B if available just on the original check in date of June 15, or could it book a different date within 14 days of check in, say June 3. If the check in date can change then previously booked flights would need to change. Thanks.

It will only change dates within the same week and only if you checked off that you would accept a different check in day. So there are little boxes for Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun and the only boxes that will be available for you to check are the ones that the resort offers. So if it happens to be a fixed week resort that only has Friday check in;s that will be the only box you can select. So if you only want Saturday, don't pick that resort. If the resort has multiple days and you only want Saturday you can say you only want Saturday.

I just checked RCI and they also specify the dates next to each day of the week so you will know. I have a Friday July 29 confirmed.

I had success in requesting a 2 BR at same resort . Resort had not been notified so bring your RCI confirmation !!! I did not add any other resorts.

I have a request for a larger unit at the same resort. Glad to see someone got upgrade. I always bring my confirmation when I do RCI exchanges. Same for hotels too!

We got same resort Platinum unit upgrades both times we put in requests -- reserved 1BR units, got 2BR, received notification Wednesday before Saturday check-in both times.

We have not (yet) requested resort upgrade.

I have probably requested a room size upgrade or resort change about 10 times. I believe I have gotten resort changes at least 3 times, and at least 2 of those also updated room size.

In RCI Weeks I waited around and was only able to book a 1 BR at Woodstone Massanutten #5711 for 4 TPUs for Presidents' Day week. I put in a request for a resort change or unit upgrade and wound up getting a 2 BR Summitt #3640 unit.

I have received a few upgrades but have run into a problem with the confirmations when the upgrade involves a resort change - each time, I received an email from RCI about the upgrade, and in my account it would show the correct unit as the upgrade but when trying to print out the confirmation it prints out the original resort. The first time it happened I figured no problem, it's "in the system" and showed up at my upgraded different resort to be met with blank stares and no reservation - spent time on the phone with RCI to get it worked out, and it caused a lot of frustration with the staff at the upgraded resort. Since then I have gotten a couple more upgrades, and each time was the same situation with the confirmation, so I get online with chat and have them initiate a proper confirmation. It takes some time so I do this a couple of days before check-in. The last time, this past October, the resort I was upgraded into said they had me as a "no show" for the week before and nothing for the actual week I was there. I definitely was happy to have the correct confirmation in hand!

I have experienced the exact same certificate bug you describe, but the resort has always had the right information for me. I also have the email that RCI sends out at the time the updrade/resort change is processed to document what happened.

I do find it a bit frustrating that it does not always update correctly in my history if I want to look back at past stays. I also don't know why almost all stays in my history have been switched to studios in the records. Guess it is some sort of retroactive downgrade. At first, I thought it was no big deal. But it is a bit frustrating when you want to look back to try to recall exactly what room configuration you had in the past to help perfect future bookings at the resort.

I wish the company would modernize its system a bit more instead of focusing exclusively on marketing new products. Why trust them with more stuff if they have such challenges with the basics of what is supposed to be the core business?

I hope you all don't mind that I bump this helpful thread with an additional question. I'm wondering if there is a time frame deadline for a resort change request to either be fulfilled or not. This is my first time placing an upgrade/change request so I'm not sure what to expect, but from a couple of posts above it sounds like the change process can be a little janky.

I have an RCI exchange for a Saturday 1/20 check in, and an alternate resort requested. The alternate resort is a Friday or Sunday check in for RCI, so I selected Friday 1/19 in my request. At what point is it a no-go and we just plan for the 1/20 check in at the reserved resort? I can be pretty flexible since it is in driving distance, but I do need to arrange for an additional night with our house/dog sitter. I do see the requested resort available as a 1/19 check in on the exchange search, so that has me thinking it might come through...otherwise I would just cancel my request and go on my merry way with the original resort stay...which I'm kind of tempted to do anyway based on the experiences noted, seems like it might be more trouble than it is worth.

I can't see in the rules when they stop looking. I have been upgraded within 4 days of check in. You do also have the option to cancel the request if you want to give up on it.

I think they run these matches every night and you could get a match up until the last night inventory could be available for what you want to upgrade to (for where I travel that is usually 3 days before check-in).

I had an upgrade recently go through 14 days out (the first night on which it could get a match.)

I also recently booked a room on the last possible day it could be booked (on a Tuesday I booked a room to check in on that Friday). I put a request in for an upgrade (and there was inventory available) but I did not get an upgrade because in the middle of the night when the match process ran the inventory was pulled out of the system before the match ran. I mostly did it out of curiosity to see what would happen.

Platinum unit upgrade came through for us twice -- Vacation Village At Parkway both times.

I am not sure if this will solve the problem, but if you are trying to print out a new certificate, make sure you download the new certificate. Otherwise, you will be reprinting the older confirmation that you originally downloaded, again.

First possible day for upgrade confirmation is 14 days. We were upgraded the day before last time we put in for one.

One time we had an upgrade to a larger property go through, but I hadn’t seen it. Was surprised after check-in we had a 3BR unit instead of a 2BR.
