I'm sure this has been discussed a lot here, but my searches did not come up with anything.
Has anybody seen a significant diifference in trade power with RCI if they deposit their week 10 months out versus 18 months out

Thanks

The addage has always been that the earlier you deposit, the better the trading power, with one year out being the maximizing time.

We deposit close to two years out and our trading power has dwindled the past few years. Someone who should know suggested that I may be depositing too far out, too early for a demand to have been created. They suggested that I withdraw some deposits and redeposit them closer to one year out.

I did and it didn't make any difference.

Another interesting factor is that all of our deposits have always been taken, and we are now on deposit #100. I think that should speak for itself, that we have made money for them. I have searched our resort and normally nothing is available during our weeks until we deposit. Guides have told me that ours is the only deposit.

So, none of it makes any sense.

We have had the exact same experience as JLB...We are on deposit #96, and our latest 2 deposits have been downgraded AGAIN! #95 was deposited less than a year out, and #96 was deposited exactly 2 years out. Both pull exactly the same, and both pull less than deposit #94.

We just used #94 for an Outer Banks Beach Club unit in next May. Neither #95 nor #96 would pull Outer Banks. Go figure!! :(

I know it has been suggested before, but for those who try to avoid those conspiracy threads, you know, the ones that suggest that the exchange companies actually know what they are doing, and do stuff intentionally ;), if your deposit cannot see the good stuff, the stuff that rents for beaucoup bucks, then you cannot get it for an exchange. That would make it available for rental. $1500 does more for the bottom line than $164, or whatever today's exchange fee is.

We just deposited a week 42 at the Anchorage Resort in Key Largo Florida with RCI, this week (11 months early)

We then made a trade on line with RCI for a Memorial Day Week May 2009 week at the Samoset Resort in Rockport Maine This is a true Gold Crown 5 Star Resort.

These timeshares rent for over 2K for the week at Samoset. We stayed there in 2006, in late April, and it was nice, but a bit on the cool side.

Granted we have booked 18 months ahead, however this resort is not easy to trade into, when booking a year or less out.

Overall, our trade results with RCI have been excellent as long as you bank weeks a year early, and book a year or more ahead.

Happy Travels

trading power

Hello, I am a former RCI employee, I worked at RCI for a decade or so.. I held several different positions including supervisor.. I left because I could no longer stand the way that RCI conducts itself... As for trading power the reason that members are unaware as to how it works is because even the guides themselves are unsure.. it is such a complicated process that no one could possible be expected to know how it works... I will tell you that if you are finding that you are having more and more difficulty exchanging it may in fact be that a resort had re negotiated its contract to improve their members tp.. or simply that the units that would normally be avail are simply not because RCI has placed them in their rental program rather than making them avail for exchange ( this happens far more then they are willing to admit) another possible scenerio is that outside groups are purchasing these units or that members in other programs IE Points are booking weeks inventory... if you need any help maximising what little hope you have of getting what you want please feel free to contact me.. at some point I will explain why those little "errors" happen on accoungts IE weeks get banked in error or vacations get cancelled.. etc Yes I may sound a little disgruntlled but you would too If you had any ethics at all and worked there.

If you're willing to offer your insider's knowledge of how RCI works, please join TUG and stick around. I know many people here would love to know more about how things work.

Candor is something rare where RCI is concerned. ;)

Samoset Exchange

Congrats on your exchange into Samoset. We have an ongoing search in for any 1BR unit for May-August. This is with a 2BR Aug (red) week at a Gold Crown resort.

I have seen postings of sightings 3 times now on TS4Ms for weeks within our search parameters and would have jumped at the chance for a Memorial Day week. I call RCI and they tell me nothing is there. VC said what we see and what they see are 2 different things. They see "real time" exchanges. Whatever that is supposed to mean.

I asked the counselor if I would ever be able to pull this resort with my week and she just said to leave the ongoing search in.

My question....if I can't pull what others are seeing, what's the use of leaving my search in? :wall: Availabilty at 45 days???

This has been driving me crazy! :crash:

.. at some point I will explain why those little "errors" happen on accoungts IE weeks get banked in error or vacations get cancelled.. etc
As someone who has had 2 vacations cancelled, I'd appreciate more insight into that. My guess is overzealous VG's who get some sort of commissions on bankings - then when discovered, the unit is returned to the owner for their own use. But please do shed light on that, whenever you can.

Here's what I really don't get though. If/when there's an error, and an overbooking occurs wherein 2 members get booked into the same unit, the original booking's confirmation is cancelled, while the newer booking gets to keep the confirmation. At least, that's what Madge here maintained, and this has happened to some TUG members. Maybe you can explain that one!

And of course, we'd like to know why so many weeks, more and more, show up in Extra Vacations that don't even show up as possible exchanges. If these are member deposits, and being rented under the ruse of "excess inventory", why wouldn't RCI at least make them available as either/or?

Have you been contacted by and contributed to the class action attornies? The investigators here recruiting evidence awhile back (seems like a year). I have specific, quantified evidence of declining availability (but only among the better resorts), and evidence of declining trading power with the same weeks, and the investigators were not interested.

I would also question the wisdom in contributing evidence. It would be tantamount to reporting misconduct by your supervisor at work. Even when the personnel policy requires that you make that report, it is a difficult decision, knowing that it would make your life more difficult.
