I just deposited 70k points to RCI looking for a specific week (Aug 15, 2009) in Williamsburg, Va. There is nothing available but they tell me they update every 7 seconds and I have 48 hours to continue calling to look. I see weeks on Extra Vacations, but got the line that these are weeks that RCI has purchased.

Am I wasting my time? I am trying to get this week specifically to give to my sister and her family and they are not able to be flexible on the week.

Thanks for any advice. Can anyone else do a search for that week and see if there is availability?

Joan

No you are not wasting your time...be patient and call an check weekly. The inventory will be in your trade. Dealing with a trade company isn't an exact science, but if you bank your week early, conduct an ongoing search and (OPEN UP YOUR SEARCh to more than 1 resort or area) you are bound to get lucky.

Agreed. I think chances are good that Wyndham will bank some Williamsburg units, and a red studio with internal preference should be good enough to pull one in mid-august. The June '09 bank just went in a week or so ago, so you've got a couple months to wait.

If you want to increase your chances, you might consider making the deposit permanent and entering an ongoing search. If you want to be really sure, book a week internally through Wyndham. Are you looking for 1BR, or 2? If you're doing 1BR, you may as well book the week internally---the cost is about the same.

Ongoing search with wide net

(I posted a detailed question under another thread) - As a new TSer via Fairshare plus - if I deposit a generic week with RCI - how much flexibility is there in defining ongoing search? Could I name two or three different weeks at same resort? Could I name two or three different weeks at two different resorts - what are some positive experiences in this regard?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim, we currently have an ongoing search for "May/June 2009" AND "May/June 2010" for a particular region - it's searching both times with the same deposit. I'm not sure if they let you get more creative than that, but they'll definitely let you choose two timeframes.

Ongoing Search

I have had 2 searches going on the same week, one for Williamsburg August 2009 and one for Montauk whenever it comes available. I have gotten calls on both and just booked one.

Perhaps I'm mistaken (...always a good possibility), but I was of the impression that only dates and geographic "regions" could be submitted for an ongoing search with RCI (i.e., not specific resorts, per se).

Then I humbly remove the "perhaps" from "perhaps I'm mistaken". ;)

Joan, when you do an exchange with RCI, it is a waiting game especially if you want a specific timeframe, unit size and resort. As suggested before if you are more flexible with your timeframe, unit size and resort things become easier. One note if you are trading into a Wyndham property and you have an on-going search you should have a fairly good chance of getting a match as Wyndham is now depositing June 09 into RCI. Give yourself another month or so and see what happens. Then you can expand your choices on the item least important to you.

I would also suggest that you call now and again as this seems to "freshen up" your search. I just got a confirmation for a specific resort, time and unit size, but my search was in for three months now. Good luck.

I got my week, my unit size, and my resort. RCI called last weekend. Getting a GC for my sister and she is THRILLED! I love that I can do this for my family, give them vacations that they would never be able to afford and with just some leftover points. I think timesharing is great!

Joan, congratulations. RCI has done well by me also. The waiting game is the hardest.
