RCI RESORTS IN CANCUN/RIVIERA MAYA

H3R sounds really appealing to me. I have been wanting to go there for several years. AI optional.

Agreed however price of food seems hard to establish from my searches on Tripadvisor and elsewhere
Gringos pay for food at these captive resorts, that's established and hard to escape. Even if you find a place in PDC, the local places aren't as cheap as you'd expect. In Cancun, the entire zone is a tourist trap

So that's why I'm questioning the non AI. AI at Royal Haciendas is reasonable.

The only thing I'd recommend as far as AI is shopping booking.com etc for their cash price before exchanging. Some of them are flat cheaper to pay cash than even just the AI fee for an exchange. Some of them are more reasonable, and special deals can be found on AIs in RCI.

Every AI we've ever stayed in (including upcoming in June) has been a cash rental through an OTA because the pricing was better.

I'm doing all that :)

I like the 2br options to spread out. Easier with the kids. So I do give the TS option a little more value than regular rooms via OTA.
Looking back at this previous thread (and still trying to schedule for H3R), with our daughter in her teens now, I do completely get the value of securing a 2BR via exchange, or even a 1BR vs OTA hotel rooms.

Royal Haciendas is a good choice. While I no longer own there, we bought pre construction. It’s a great place. Don’t tie yourself to the refine package. It’s not really AI. Many up charges on food and drink. We always spent less just getting what we wanted. Plus you can go into PDC a night or 2 and not waste your resort meals. IMHO

Both resorts are really wonderful. We never do AI so we wait to exchange with optional AI. At Tres Rios the food is very reasonable. We stayed there a few times and paid as we went very nice. It’s probably much harder to get a larger condo at either of these resorts.

Royal Haciendas you can walk into Playa be it a long walk or ride bikes.
