I have an exchange coming up that I know we can only go the first 4 days. I friend of mine can go the remaining days. Is there any issue with him being there when I'm not (assuming he doesn't destroy the place)?

Yes - you must either add him as your guest when you check-in, or buy a guest certificate for him. Otherwise, the resort will have no idea who this stranger is, with no authorization to stay at the resort. Also - when he arrives, you need to take your credit card off the room, and add his.

All you normally need to do is give their name at check-in. We have done this on several occasions when friends have arrived before us and as per our request, they were given keys to the unit, etc. We just had to show up at some point with the appropriate credit card re the normal holdback for miscellaneous charges.
