I like the new upgrade feature of the RCI Platinum membership. Now, not only can I request a bigger unit at the resort I exchanged into, but I can add additional resorts. For example for my upcoming exchange to Disney's Saratoga Spring in a 1 bedroom, I was able to request a 2 bedroom and also I was able to add in Bay Lake Tower (1 bedroom) and Animal Kingdom (1 bedroom). We shall see if anything different becomes available. I won't hold my breath.
 
I like the way it is supposed to work but I don't think it is working yet. I have a request in place. I've seen upgrade that did not happen automatically. I put it in hold and called RCI. The VC told me I have to pay another $89 for my weeks account. I agreed. Then he still could not get it to work. He refunded my exchange fee, I confirmed the week on Friday. It disappeared from my account today. I will have to call again tomorrow.
 
I signed up. It looks good on paper. I am still on the fence as to its execution. I sincerely believe you will NOT get a bigger unit at Walt Disney World or a unit at Disney's Bay Lake Towers Resort or any other high demand resort. But let us know if you get lucky!!:wave:
 
wish you luck on the better unit for Disney I have not taken the plunge to platinum honestly just seems like something that isn't really needed.
 
Platinum

I have been Platinum for 2 or 3 years. Have never been upgraded to any unit any where. I would not join Platinum for only the upgrade feature. The stars have to align just right for that to happen.

I am Platinum but I do not see how I can add additional resort options to my confirmed week. Supposedly you can also change checkin dates +/- a couple of days but I don't see how to do that either.

The upgrade has to be available 3-14 days before checkin in order to be automatic and free. This actually happened to us once a couple of years ago. If it wass more than 14 days in advance than that, I'm surprised that RCI only wanted $89. I would think it would have been another $209 at least.

Go to your confirmed exchanges and click "Edit Upgrades & Changes Request"


 
It seems to depend on the reservation. I had one reservation in Cabo that only offered an upgrade, but my other reservations in Hawaii offered both upgrades and other resorts
 
I happen to have an exchange to Massanutten. I added request for upgrade and I've seen bigger units that matched my request more than once. I have not got the upgrade yet. I think the upgrade probably only happens at certain time period during the day.
 
There is a thread on the HGVC board about RCI upgrades for $49 - seems to be the same rules as the free Platinum; only available 3-14 days before checkin. I wonder how RCI will allocate these in the case where an HGVC trade and a Platinum trade both want the same upgrade. Will RCI go for the quick $49 or give it free to the platinum member. Of course, none of us will ever know.
 
I just noticed the upgrade and change request is $49 for my weeks account and free for my points account.

I do like it a lot if it works. It is great when I have to confirm an exchange to make sure we have something but wish for another check-in date or larger unit.
