RCI Exchange vs Interval exchange

We have been exchanging our two bedroom fixed week timeshare with RCI. It received 26 points for 2024. The resort is no longer RCI gold crown. It is a gold resort at Interval. RCI lists 22 points for 2025. This seems like a large drop in point value. So, I checked with Interval and they would provide a week for week exchange in a two bedroom. No point system. Not being an Interval member, is this a good option?We currently are able to get up to two weeks in Mexico at a 5 star (2 bedroom) or a single week in Kauai (one bedroom) for the RCI27 points. Thoughts on changing to interval?

No point system.

There is some form of a point system in the form of trade power, but in Interval, you can't see what it is.

When you deposit your week it is assigned a trade power. You can exchange for things that require that much trade power or less, but cannot see anything that requires more trade power. If you exchange for something with lower trader power, you do not get "change back," unlike in RCI.

Instead, the question is whether or not your deposit might have better trade power in II than in RCI.

If you get more trading power in II, you can use it to trade for a nicer place. But you cannot use it to make an additional trade. In II you are for the most part limited to doing 1 for 1 trades as @bnoble also wisely pointed out.

Note: Your resort being downgraded from gold crown in RCI might be a warning sign. It may be worth it for you to kick the tires, see what is going on, and perhaps consider getting out from under it. You are lucky that the resort is dually affiliated.

IMHO if you disclosed what you own, you might get better feedback/advice and I don't see the downside to sharing that.

Your Welk Villas is what you are referring to as changing from Gold Crown to no crown in RCI?

RCI is not going to get much inventory from Welk in the future because Hyatt took over Welk, and Hyatt is now managed by Marriott. Marriott/ Hyatt/ Westin have been associated with II for many years. I see an occasional Marriott week in RCI, mostly Cypress Harbour and Royal Palms in Orlando. I think RCI is basically saying to Welk owners with the sudden downgrade in status and trading power is, basically, "Yeah, don't let the door hit you on your way out."

II is the best place for trading purposes for me, but you might not be as happy in the end. I am pulling out of RCI for as much as I can. I am selling a bunch of weeks currently and so glad that one Australia resort is no longer going to be a timeshare.

I would try II and see what you think. Summer would be a good week to deposit, if you can reserve a summer week and deposit yourself.

Reserve a summer week (4th of July, or any July week). Split the unit into its two parts, and deposit both sides to II. That will get you two trades.

It all depends on your ownership. Some system allow request first. Others must deposit first.

Whichever way your system works, set up an ongoing search request. Don't fall into the trap where you think there is nothing available because you don't see it online. The best inventory doesn't just sit online waiting for you or me to log in. It gets matched to requests, and then any extra weeks will appear online.

Set up an OGS if you are sure you want a match OR follow the status of your search daily. Once it matches, the transaction automatically processed. You only have one business day to call in and cancel if you no longer want the match.

This is a very different game than RCI where you have to affirmatively take action to finalize that you want the OGS match.

Good advice, but not a blanket statement for all. Some TS don't lock off, some may not have July 4th as highest demand and some don't have the floating week options.

It is a 2 BR LO, so they can split. Fixed week 11, slightly above average demand.

OP, if you do want to give it away, having the usage you are thinking about depositing available to the buyer will make it more attractive.
