RCI Exchange from HGVC - CRUISE?

I used up my HGVC points on a quick trip to Vegas in Oct. I'm racing at Spring Mountain near Vegas, so a quick hop over and 3 nights uses up all my HGVC points for 2014.

I get a message from RCI that my exchange points (5,000) are expired! Huh? After 5 or 6 phone calls, it has been determined that I do, in fact, have 5000 RCI exchange points DUE to expire in Dec. Good grief. I have to use them somehow.

Can I do an RCI Exchange points cruise???? Anybody know? There are some 3-day Princes cruises out of L.A. that I can do, if they accept my points!

Or, can I roll them over?
Ginny

I do not know the answer to either question. I just wanted to make a third suggestion. If you aren't able to use the points before they expire, maybe you can book an exchange for someone and then have them book something for you next year.

Did you buy a resale account that had points deposited into RCI?

Generally, using TS points is lousy use of MF dollars. Many of those 3 night cruises go for $300 inside pp to $500 balcony. You can discount the $500-$800 brochure price to those prices using $1000 in MF. Or cash through a discounter. Use TS points for TS stays.

Sorry - I don't know what all those initials stand for -- MF Dollars? TS?

I know it's not a good value, but we don't want to spend 5 to 7 days somewhere just to use points. I'd rather spend them on a little cruise.

I'm open to any suggestions though.

I don't understand booking something for someone then they book something for us.

My points are HGVC points that I didn't use and I was told to roll them over to RCI. Someone suggested I pay to have them rolled over again, but not sure that's possible. Every time I call RCI they say I have to call HGVC. Hilton tells me to call RCI. I feel like a ping pong ball.

Sorry, from your registration date, I thought you were not newbie. MF is maintenance fee, and TS is timeshare.

Good luck on using those 'excess' points. They are better used for stays in a resort than on a 'partner' like a cruise, airline or other travel.

I understand where you are coming from but unfortunately rci cruise is unlikely to help. They never give more than a discount off the price of a cruise and normally they only discount cabins that cost more than $500 per person not including tax and even then the discount is small. I took a look at the 3 night. Cruises from LA. If you were planning on booking a suite or balcony suites for 2 that normal goes for $2000-3000 for the three nights you might get it for $1600-2600 when using your using your points. For any of the normal inside or ocean view cabin that normally go for $400-$1000 for 2 no discounts apply. If you were booking a suite that normally goes for $4000 or more the discount would be a little higher but so would the out of pocket expenses.

Balcony would be my minimum requirement, but if I have to go in Nov or Dec, I could abide with a window. I just want to not lose the 5000 points.

You can only pay to deposit your HGVC points into RCI once, so it's time to use them.

Presley was suggesting a trade with another TUG member or friend that owns a timeshare. You book something they can use now in exchange for a future booking they make for you. Takes a level of trust.

5000 is a lot, that would book 2 weeks in a one bedroom.

I know 5000 is a lot! Problem is I just don't want to be gone for two weeks. This is why I'd rather just "blow" them on a little 3 day cruise.

They are already rolled over from HGVC to RCI. I'm just wondering if RCI will allow me to roll them to next year. OR... maybe use them now to book something for next year. I can do that! Not sure they'll let me.

I want to go to San Antonio and spend time on Riverwalk.

No RCI requires that the points be used for a booking for a stay that happens before the points expire. You cannot book points that are expiring for a trip in the future.

I know there is a way to pay to extend the dates of a fixed week deposit, I just have not tried this with a points deposit. I do not know if it is possible. However it might be worth asking. There is a charge if they allow it.

If there is NO extension option use or loose is your only option.
