Last year I mentioned a friend who was given a Bluegreen certificate entitling her to 2 weeks a year of extra RCI vacations at the exchange rate. she does not own any timeshare, but she joined RCI to use the certificate. She planned to book the entire month of Feb in two bedroom units, gold crown in Orlando or the coast of Florida for $164 a week.
If you knew RCI, you wouldn't think this would work, but she doesn't know RCI. If you knew her, you would know she gets what she wants.
At this point she is getting ticked at RCI, they are only giving her one bedroom units at the Villas at Parkway , they say there aren't two bedroom units available for the exchange rate only. I have tried to explain to her that people who paid for ownership, and pay maintenance fees, are trying to get the same weeks for exchange, but she just blows that off. she was offered a two bedroom unit, but resort wasn't rated, so she turned it down.
She is hesitating to book all the weeks, because she is sure they have two bedroom weeks, preferably at Oasis Lakes, that she can get in February for that$164 rate. (She had considered offereing a mutual friend $500 to rent her condo in Naples for the month).
To top it off she is visually impaired and see well enough to use the RCI website to search for weeks.

Try telling her about or showing her Last Calls. That is about all she could expect to get with a gimmicky bonus week.

First, select February. You/she will have an alphabetized list of the 1604 units in the 341 resorts available in February. Scroll through until you find Kissimmee and Orlando.

There is one Kissimmee resort and one Orlando resort, both 1-bedroom and both for 2/2/08.

Another way to get to the same result is to select Florida and look at February on all of them.

I have offered to set up her computer to access that information. (She is in Wisconsin, I am in Florida now) she can't see it, she is legally blind, she says it is too hard. Anytime you try to tell her somehing she doesn't want to hear, she ignores it. WE play golf togethr and it is tough on the rest of us. the funny thing is she can apply make up perfectly, even though she can't see.

I know similar people--the stubborness not the blindness.

For instance, the former neighbor who a year ago decided not to open probate as Personal Representative for our neighbor. The house is still sitting, tied up by a daughter of the deceased who opened probate with on old will, and was named Personal Representative.

Now the former neighbor is saying I should have insisted she do it.

But, she comes from a pool of dysfunctional neighbors, the commonality being that facts are whatever they believe them to be. ;)

Let her be.
