We are buying the 3 week every 2 year (one summer week, then 2 non summer the next year) timeshare at Wapato Point, I have clarified via this forum that we are getting a reasonable deal on that. However, we want to trade the 2 non summer weeks via a point system, is RCI the best option? We would like to be able to get weekend get-away options, rather than use full weeks. It looks like RedWeek doesn't offer that. We are in Washington State, so Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, and Idaho are the areas that we are looking to do timeshare trades into.

My husband is limited in his vacation time, so weekends are really a good option for our family. We will save our full week vacations for summer at Wapato Point!

Thanks for any ideas you might have!

As you said Redweek.com does not do partial weeks. But in their new points system they will evaluate your place and tell you how many points it is worth in their system. Sometimes you can get a week for very low points. That might work out the same as getting a partial week. I have discovered if your date is further out---it is worth more points. They want enough time to exchange it! Conversely, if the week is close you can get it cheap.

Seems to me that the resort you are buying pretty much dictates what point system you are in. Sounds like it is in RCI Points?? If that's the case, you can't quite 'deposit' to another points system, say, World Mark or Bluegreen.

If, instead, this is truly a weeks-based ownership, you could deposit to any exchange company you want, but that is not the same as a points system. Redweek is a bit of a different animal - not a timeshare system, not quite an exchange company (yet?).

So my first question is, are you buying an RCI Points resort?

I assume the Wapato Pt units are already in the RCI Points system (or do you have to convert the units to Points).

There are approx 2 dozen RCI Points resorts in the NW (including a few in the Glacier Nat'l Park area of MT) and there is a bunch more in Western Canada so you should have plenty of choices. However, availability during the peak season is based on how many owners do NOT reserve their home week and therefore go into the RCI "Pool".

How many points are you getting for the non-summer weeks? Fri & Sat night stays will use 40% of the weekly point value. If you are getting 60K-70K points (total) for the two non-summer weeks and plan on booking at GC resorts during the high demand season, you might only get 2 to 3 weekend trips.
Learn how to use the points for last minute vacations and off season travel and 60K-70K points can go a long way.

Good Luck

You will need to convert your weeks to RCI points

Which RCI does ( or did) for this resort for around $300.

Then they will give you a certain amount of points for all your weeks.

You will be allowed to book a prime summer week using their program.

Now, the idea of using points for weekends in the NW isn't going to work.

There are very few points resorts, so you may wish to rethink your plan.

You will be able to take 9000 point last minute week exchanges, during the off season, but that is pretty much it for getting weekends.

If you bought a WM or Vacation Internationale , you would have access to weekends, planned well in advance, or very short notice as bonus time.

Sorry,

Greg

Yes, RCI Resort

OK, thanks for the feeback, lots of really good information. I called RCI previously, and learned that I can get about 60-70K points for my two non summer weeks, and about the same for my summer week.

From what I am understanding, it might be a good choice to give RCI a try and see how it goes.
