Rci Availability next Feb or Mar 2021

Have been looking some for a 2 bedroom unit next winter mid jan to mid mar and have not seen anything available. Does much ever pop up in that time frame as a RCI points member? I don't particularly want to go to oahu. Just curious what others have seen in years past. Will be waiting until next Oct to book airfare. Thanks.

RCI WEEKS exchange inventory can be available up to two years in advance (depending on the resort) but RCI POINTS exchange inventory doesn’t become available until 10 months before.

I'll be looking for 10 to 15 nights myself
So does the 10 month window start say if I want may 16th to arrive can I book those nights starting May 16 or do I have to wait till 10 months hit the end of my stay ?

It depends on which period you’re referring to (Home Resort, Home Group or Standard Reservation). See timeframes below.

From the RCI Points Disclosure Guide (link)
Home Resort Priority Period. The “Home Resort Priority Period” is designed to support a Member’s use of Floating or Fixed Vacation Time at his/her Home Resort. During this period, Exchange Requests of Vacation Time in the Home Resort are available on a first-come, first-served basis exclusively to Members who have Deposited Vacation Time at that Home Resort and must be made for the full week. The Home Resort Priority Period begins 365 days and ends 335 days (approximately 12 to 11 months) in advance of the start date of the relevant Vacation Time. A Home Resort Priority Period Exchange Request must be for the same unit type, season, and number of Points using only those Points allotted in the current Use Year for the Vacation Time used to make the Exchange Request. If the week requested is different than what the Member owns (for example unit type or season or in the case of Fixed Vacation Time a different week) or the number of Points required to book the vacation differs from the number of Points allocated to the Member’s account for that Use Year, or the Member uses Points other than those allocated in the Use Year of the requested vacation, additional fees will apply.
Home Group Priority Period. “The Home Group Priority Period” is designed to support a Member’s use of Vacation Time at Resorts in his/her Home Group or a Member’s use of Floating or Fixed Vacation Time at his/her Home Resort if his/her Home Resort is not part of a Home Group. During this period, Exchange Requests for Vacation Time in the Home Group are available on a first-come, first-served basis exclusively for Members whose Vacation Time was Deposited from that Home Group. The Home Group Priority Period begins 334 days and ends 304 days (approximately 11 to 10 months) prior to the start date of the relevant Vacation Time. A Home Resort Priority Period Exchange Request must be for the same unit type, season, and number of Points using only those Points allotted in the current Use Year for the Vacation Time used to make the Exchange Request. If the Vacation Time requested is different than what the Member owns (for example unit type or season or in the case of Fixed Vacation Time a different week) or the number of Points required to book the vacation differs from the number of Points allocated to the Member’s account for that Use Year, or the Member uses Points other than those allocated in the Use Year of the requested vacation, additional fees will apply.
Standard Reservation Period. The Standard Reservation Period is the time period during which all Vacation Time at Affiliated Resorts becomes available for Exchange Requests by all Members on a first- come, first-served basis regardless of where the Member owns or the type of Vacation Ownership. The Standard Reservation Period begins 303 days (approximately 10 months) in advance of the start date of the relevant Vacation Time.
Nonstandard Periods. The Network Administrator reserves the right to provide a different Home Week Priority Period, Home Resort Priority Period, Home Group Priority Period or Standard Reservation Period other than those specified in these Terms and Conditions for designated Resorts or specified Vacation Time.
RCI Weeks Reservations. Members have access to the Weeks Program and may make a Weeks Exchange of available Weeks Program Inventory upon redemption of the number of RCI Points currently set by the Network Administrator. If a Weeks Exchange is requested and space is unavailable, the Member may submit an Exchange Request pursuant to Paragraph 7 of the Terms And Conditions of RCI Weeks Subscribing Membership. RCI Points are deducted at the time the Reservation is made. RCI reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify the RCI Points values assigned to Weeks Program Inventory.

Thank you for the explanation. I was wondering why some weeks had showed up but no points. Is anything that pops up at say 8 months to a month out a cancellation or something that just wasn't reserved in the first place?

I have another question that's related to ongoing searches. We've done an ongoing search in the past but nothing ever seems to come up in the points account meanwhile I've seen them pop up in a standard search. Are ongoing searches only worthwhile in a weeks account?

Inventory can pop up at anytime due to various reasons (cancellations, developer deposit, etc).

RCI WEEKS inventory can pop up anytime but no more than two years out.

RCI POINTS also supports a Nonstandard period as highlighted in the post above. So inventory can pop up later for some resorts. Here’s an example from the Sightings forum (link).

For example, Disney deposits into both RCI WEEKS and RCI POINTS. Their RCI POINTS deposit fall under the non standard period and the majority of their RCI POINTS deposits required a full 7 nights (link)

TIP: If you have your eye on a specific resort, determine if they deposit in RCI WEEKS and/or RCI POINTS and if there is a pattern to their deposits. The TUG Sightings forum may help you with that. It has sightings going back several years for the higher demand resorts/locations thanks to the help of fellow TUG Members. There are two RCI programs - RCI WEEKS and RCI POINTS. Some RCI resorts participate in one or both programs.

Ongoing Search Request (OGS) only searches RCI WEEKS inventory. You have to search manually for RCI POINTS inventory.

It’s best to setup an ongoing search request for deposits into RCI WEEKS as well as searching online for availability in RCI POINTS. What you see online in RCI WEEKS are the leftovers that weren’t picked up by an ongoing search. Try to be as flexible as possible with your requested travel dates (request dates ranges over several weeks/months instead of specific dates) to increase your odds in getting a match.
