Christopher Tolkien has died at the age of 95. Christopher Tolkien spent much of his life preserving and extending the literary fantasies of his father, J.R.R. Tolkien. His death, announced Thursday by the Tolkien Society, ends a distinguished career devoted to his father's legacy. He drew the original maps for LOTR, signed "CJRT," and posthumously edited "The Silmarillion."
He was appointed "literary executor" in his father's will. J.R.R. Tolkien's estate is worth an estimated $500 million; however, it's reported that Amazon Prime Video recently paid $250 million for the rights to Lord of the Rings TV series, which is due to be released in 2021.
