I am in the process of taking over a VI contract and don't have access to the site yet. I am hoping someone can answer a few questions for me:

When booking a resort a year in advance, can I book it with a Friday check in/out date? Or do they only allow Saturday check ins?

What does it cost to extend points? I will receive some that expire next July and won't be able to use them by then but would like to use them for next October.

Is all booking done online or can I call in to book? It sounds like the transfer might take a few weeks and I was hoping to book something for next October. I was told my name could be added to the account while the transfer is going through. I probably won't have online access so just curious if I can call to make a reservation.

Thank you!

When booking a resort a year in advance, can I book it with a Friday check in/out date? Or do they only allow Saturday check ins? It's points based so you can check in and out any day you want. There are a few resorts where they only own a few weeks here and there that have that limitation. One was Shuswap but that is leaving the system.

I've never heard of extending points and I can't find any mention in the FAQ. You can use any points from the last 2 years. A use year of Jan-Dec of 2023 would mean you would need to use those points by the end of 2025.

My transfer in 2019 only took 3 weeks and some of that was my fault for failing to send in a document.

Thank you!
If you let me know what you want to book, I'll check and see how things are booking up.

You may check in and out any day of the week at any point starting 12 months from check in. Also, you can book 1 night to as many as you have points for.

The cost for extending points is not shown on prevailing rates. It may be something that is discretionary for VI.

You may book on line or call in. There is a $30 reservation fee, which is not refunded if you cancel. However, this took the place of housekeeping fees of which there are none. Your stay must exceed 9 nights to get a mid stay clean. Basically you get a clean for every 9 days of your stay, so a 28 day stay would get 3 mid stay cleans which can be arranged for whatever days you wish as long as they have the housekeeping bandwidth for that day (so not on some high check out days)

We own a ton of timeshares but VI was our first back in 1987. We now have 450 points with VI. Currently staying for a week at the very end of low season in Palm Springs. We have a 2 bedroom den unit which is the most expensive. Total of 57.9 points. At $10.35 per point, that's $599 + $30 reservation fee. About $90 per night.

Learn the rules (they are different for every timeshare company). If you are new to timeshare, know that you should book as far out as you can. The only penalty for canceling outside the cancelation deadline (30 days unless you buy Point Protection at the time of reservation for $49 - then you can cancel the last business day before reservation and get all points back) is the reservation fee.

Enjoy!!

Thanks! I already have a week booked in Maui for October 2 - 9 so I was hoping to add a week starting October 9 for either the Sea Village, Aloha Towers, or Fairway Villas (2 bedroom).

they all have availability for Sept and Oct. The Sept dates are past the one year mark so may be an indication that things don't book up that quickly.
Fairway Villas only has 1 2BR unit. The other 2 have 14-15 2BR units so those are your more likely options.

That is great news! I was hoping there would be availability since it is off season, but you never know..

I actually had a call from VI this morning and they said because I am not a current owner, they are able to just do a name change on the account instead of a full transfer so it should all be done this week and I will have access to book in time.
