Hello All,
I remember reading a good explanation on this that a Tugger posted on the DVC section of the forum 3-5 months ago, but I can't seem to find that thread/posting the past couple of weeks searching for it, so I am asking here in the exchange section now. I just got my very own II membership yesterday, and have yet to make an OGS in my RCI account.
I already have something book Dec. 10th to Dec. 17th, 2016. I would like to take 2-3 weeks total vacation, and it needs to be before, not after, and I just want to make sure when my request does match, it does not overlap and will have a check out date by Dec. 10th.
So for RCI OGS, do I need to specify:
1) Nov. 26th to Dec. 3rd (meaning last date specify is Check-in date). So if I check in on Dec. 3rd, check out will be Dec. 10th?
or
2) Nov. 26th to Dec. 10th (meaning last date specify is the Check-out date)?
Also, same question above for II Request First search?
The second question I have is regarding unit sizes. I would prefer a 2 bedroom unit, but willing to accept a one bedroom if that's the only unit available. What I am trying to avoid is if both a 1 bedroom and 2 bedrooms unit are available, I ended up only getting matched to the 1 bedroom unit.
In II, I see that when I exchange a 3 bedroom, I can choose the minimum unit size I am willing to accept. So, if I choose one bedroom, than it can match either 1 bedroom, 2 bedrooms, or 3 bedrooms unit, whichever happens to be available matching the dates I specify. It looks like to me, I would just create two searches for the same dates, one search for the 1 bedroom min. unit with eplus and/or vacation guard, and another one for the 2 bedrooms min. unit without eplus/vacation guard, and if the 1 bed. unit request matches first, than let the 2 bedrooms unit search continue on. If that also matches later on, than I just I can just change the 1 bed. exchange to something else for later since I have eplus on it. If the 2 beds unit matches first, than I can just cancel the other search and get a full refund for the search and eplus. Of course, if they both matches at the same time, just make sure to cancel the 1 bed unit request on time before it gets auto-confirmed.
So, did I get it right, meaning that is possible do the above with II?
Now, on to RCI, the I have the same similar question. When you pick a 1 bedroom in the RCI OGS, does that mean it will only match a 1 bedroom unit (even when a 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom becomes available on the specified dates)? Or does it work like II, when you choose 1 bedroom, that's the minimum you will accept, and it can match the 1 bed, 2 beds, or 3 beds unit (whichever becomes available at first)?
Also, does the same strategy that I have for II work for RCI? It appears RCI lets you setup multiple searches for the 1 OGS fee. So, I would just setup two searches, one for a 1 bedroom unit with vacation guard, and one for a 2 bedrooms unit without vacation guard. If the 1 bedroom request matches first, I just confirm and let the 2 bedroom search continue on. If this later matches also, I presume I will just get charged another exchange fee, and when I got to cancel the first exchange, I would get a refund according to the vacation guard terms and conditions, and just lose the exchange fee of the 1st confirmation? Of course, if the 2 bedroom matches at first, it's easy, just cancel the OGS for the 1 bedroom unit, no refund needed since I only paid for 1 OGS.
I realize not everybody is a member of both RCI and II. So, if you only know the answer for one of the exchange company, RCI or II, can you share what you do know? If you happen to know the answers for both exchange companies, that would be awesome as well.
Thanks for taking the time to read if you made it this far
, and thanks ahead of time for all the clarifications and answers to my questions.
Thanks,
Great3
