Question regarding New Points Levels/Grandfathered Gold Status

Hi,

We currently have 2 contracts (Bali Hai/Keo Kai) annual floating usage -total 386,000 points. When we purchase our last one, we also enrolled two non-Wyndham times shares as PIC points - (105,000 and 154,000).

When we did that, we gained VIP Gold status (645,000 points).

I did this before 2012, and so we were grandfathered into VIP Gold status when they introduced the higher level for Gold (700,000 now; not sure when they did this).

With the new changes they are introducing at the end of this year (and yes, I got a sales call...) will we still enjoy our VIP Gold status because of our grandfathered status?

When looking at my Ownership summary, it shows:

Status:
Gold Owner
Expiration Date: Dec 30th, 2020

Does this mean the Wyndham is cancelling our gold status? Are they no longer counting PIC points towards VIP status?

I apologize if this has been asked before, but there is so much out there, and frankly, the signal to noise ration seems, at times, to be pretty low.

Thanks!
Dave

I don’t have any PICs. My VIP Platinum ownership doesn’t show an expiration date. You might want to call and ask what that is all about.

Yes, you will be grandfathered in. Once you purchase a VIP level, it can’t be taken away. It isn’t being awarded to you, you are buying it.

If all of your purchases were before 2012, you should be permanent Gold. Definitely call and ask about that. Please let us know what they say. From what they've been saying, everyone is retaining their status. Even people who were grandfathered under the old system. Owner care's direct number is 1-866-388-7654

Just to confirm, you have not purchased anything after 2012 right?

Did you do PIC express instead of PIC Plus? PIC Express has an expiration date. PIC Plus does not.

I have PIC Plus, and I have NO expiration date.

I believe the expiration date listing OP is quoting just refers to the end of the use year. Mine looks similar and I’m not a grandfathered VIP (yet).

You may be right, but in any case, they can change the benefits to the point that they may as well be taking it away.

We did. I think we purchase Bali Hai 3 or 4 years ago. But we were already Gold by that time from our pre-2012 purchases.

I know there were reports of people who were grandfathered in, losing their grandfathered status after a purchase because they didn’t meet that current requirements. This would require a call to owner care to fix. Put in that call soon. Once the changes go live, I assume Owner care will be getting a lot of calls from owners who don’t read their emails.

I just called, and the operator confirmed that we retain our VIP Gold status. The increased points requirements only apply to those who don't yet have status.

Of course, the sales weasel who contacted me yesterday lied and said that if I didn't buy more points we'd lose that status.

While we really enjoy the resorts, between sales calls and constant badgering when we are there (we never go to the "member updates"; we're happy to buy our own breakfast and we don't need the promotional stuff they offer), it always feels like we need to sneak out of the resorts!

Thanks everyone for your helpful information!

did they explain why it said there was an expiration date directly under it? Mine doesn't have that.

Not really. The Philippine call center operator seemed to think that this may have been the result of tech issues related to the roll-out of the new levels.

I don't think I've ever gotten a Filipino vacation planner. Sounds exotic. :)
