I bought a secondary timeshare, and after a long and complicated story I won't bore anyone with, I ended up getting back a week the previous owner booked without telling me through II, made a reservation for Spring Break in Tahoe, found out I'm having shoulder surgery so I won't be able to go, and upon trying to cancel the week to re-bank, found out they count it as a "bonus week" instead of a ski week from the Marriott at Vail (the place I now own).

Unfortunately, the bonus week can't be canceled and I'll lose it completely. While I understand the "rules" regarding renting, I wanted to see if anyone could share any suggestions for how to let someone else "enjoy" my reserved week I can't cancel for a modest fee and not have that cause problems for the person using my timeshare week (I hope my innuendo is understood).

Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks

Renting an exchange for any amount of money is against II rules, and posting about it on an internet BBS is a good way to get caught. ;)

Some people give friends or family their exchange, and that is completely OK. However, advertising that you want to rent an exchange and renting to a stranger can get you caught....

If you join TUG, you can post it on the Distress Board, which is a perk of membership.

Note - we do not monitor the renting of exchanges on TUG, but we do like to make sure that people are informed about the possible consequences.

Many people are not happy about II's rule, but you can lose your membership, your deposit, and your exchange, so we like to let people know. Good luck!
