Question on RCI Conversion for Upcoming International Trip

We are planning a trip to Italy in 2026--and I have a surplus of points next year that I was thinking about putting into RCI to see if I can save on the hotel in Italy. Does this even make sense to do? I've never used RCI before, so not sure about the conversion rate--or if it is even worth it? Was messing around on the RCI site, and I cannot even see the point totals--since I have no points deposited into RCI currently.

I can get a hotel in Naples for around $280/night, so if I convert the RCI points--it must make sense, since that is not an outrageus cash price. Any help or advice is appreciated!!!

I do not think you can use Wyndham points to book a cash getaway. You can only do that if it is also offered as an exchange.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the RCI program--but I was under impression if I deposited points into RCI (via exchange), I could book hotels under RCI points? I have never used the program, so maybe I'm not understanding something....but I 'thought' that is how it worked.

There is an RCI program where you can book hotels for points + cash - but a barely-discounted amount of cash and just a small number of points. I wouldn’t expect it to be much better, if at all, than the best rate you can find on Kayak.

Yep, that is what I was looking for!!! I didn't think it be worth it, but wanted to check for sure.

I just played around with RCI for hotels, including with "Club Poins+Cash" and I can't make heads or tails out of if it uses any poins or not. I think they offer hotel "discounts" which probably are similar to what you'd see with priceline etc? IDK, it had some hotels in July in Naples for cheaper, and some for more, but I can't compare that stuff for you.

I should point out that sometimes RCI has exchanges that are actually hotels which might be of interest to you, but I've never found them compelling. Really only hotel rewards points programs and credit cards seem to make any real difference. But then booking cash through those can be $20-$30 more a night than the cheapest aggregator online pointing to them would be, though I think you only get status perks if you book direct - and of course booking direct there's just one place to deal with if anything at all happens.

Seems like I'll be further ahead just using Hotels.com or something similar--given the headache, and losing my Wyndham points. LIke I was saying, at $280/night, it probably isn't even worth the hassle. Now if we were talking about a $800/night hotel it might be worth it.

There are some hotels you can book using RCI points through the Wyndham portal. I've noticed some in New York City, at least one in Savannah, likely others.

One thing I noticed is you use points + exchange fee + a daily resort fee which in some cases is significant.

The resort in Savannah was called "The Desoto", it's also in II. Never stayed.

I recently booked a 1 night hotel stay through RCI (not through the Wyndham portal). After I logged in and hit 'Book' I went to 'Nightly Stays' and put in my info. I priced the hotel in Hotels dot com, Booking dot com, on the hotel site itself and the RCI price beat them all. I just needed 1 night in Miami near the airport in late December and we were surprised and pleased with the result.
