I am new to rci points just looking to buy, so many questions. I am looking on ebay there are some points for sale in the canary islands. Is there any problems with owning points from europe. I am a US citizen.
Can anyone help me on this question? am i not asking it in the right forum or something? Any advise? Also what other places besides ebay to look for points?

RCI points:

First: The TUG motto "BUY RESALE"

So you have want RCI points and are going to follow the TUG motto "Buy Resale" you need to buy a RCI affilated property and then hope several things are true.
1. That the unit you bought is already converted to RCI points and the resort will honor that convertion. (some resorts will not!!)
2. That the unit you bought isn't converted to RCI points but the convertion fee is small. ( RCI charges ~$200 to convert to RCI points and a few resorts charge just that $200 but most resorts charge a much greater fee sometimes well over $3,000)
3. That you find a broker, who specializes in RCI points sales, and has lots of options and resorts that they will sell you at resonable prices. There are several brokers, which have been mentioned here, which sell TSs in South Africa and Austrailia which are setup as easy resale resorts for RCI points.

I have some misgivings about buying overseas. Resorts in South Africa have recently seen their trading power drop signifcantly. I don't know about the canary Islands but IMHO, I'd probably stay away from them if I lived in the US.

First, I believe EBAY is the best place to buy timeshare. Primarily, the auction process allows you to judge the true market value (I define that by what others are willing to pay) of whatever it is you are bidding on. Ebay also allows you to research the past auctions and come up with your own valuations. Second, buying RCI points is the best buy in RCI system because of the enormous flexibility. But it is a bad idea to buy any poor quality resort with or without RCI points. With poor quality resorts, you will loose your investment sooner or later. Most RCI point resorts I see on sale in eBay and elsewhere are third rate and I will not take them even if they were free. So quality would be top priority. Third, the MF should be reasonable. My rule of thumb would be for a 50000 RCI point resort timeshare, price should be less than $4000, and the MF should be around $500 or less. In addition, it should be gold or silver crown.
