I was going to book the Grand Melia for next year and I was told by several reservation agents at this resort they will assign your view ahead of time and that is what you are guaranteed to get... is that really true? It is great if it is because both of my units will be oceanview but I have never heard of a resort doing that before.

Has anyone ever been in the 2 bedrooms? the resort looks great I am just curious if the 2 bedroom are nice and big?

TIA
Susan

Hi Monica,

What is the suite? is that a studio or one bedroom?

A few months ago I purchased a 2 bedroom and after they closed I found out I had 2 weeks per year (yea!!) .. I have just purchased another one off of ebay that is a also a 2 bedroom (got it for a steal, I think).

We like to travel with a lot of people so we thought the 2 bedrooms were a good option since we can use each of them as 2 bedrooms or break them down to either 3 studios units or a one bedroom and a studio unit for each of the 2 bedrooms that I own so we can have between 24-36 people travel with us.

The only bad thing is if I don't use them I have to either rent or exchange them since I can not roll them over.

My home resort in Cozumel but for $20.00 I can reserve other locations which was also importain for us.

I just made my first reservation today for Thanksgiving this year (both 2 bedroom ocean views in Cancun) and it does show oceanview on my confirmation so hopefully that means that they will honor that view when I check-in.

Are you happy with your membership?

Any tips that you can give me on their memberships, resorts or anything else?

Do you own the Sol Melia or the older membership that is not points (like mine)?

Sorry for all of the questions but you are the only one that I know that owns there..

TIA
Susan

I own w/ 3 other persons at the location in Costa Rica. We bought it from Holiday Group for nothing to speak of. There are only 12 timeshare units at the Costa Rica location, btw. I used my week this time to go to Cancun, as I've always thought that place was the bomb! I was not disappointed! The transfer fees for the Cancun location is 10% of the original price...way too much for me.

So you have 2 2-bedrooms for a total of 3 weeks a year? Wow, are you going to enjoy them. Use the MAS card and it is very, very reasonable for the caliber of resort you are staying at.

Do you own one week per year or more with the Costa Rica one... I would love to find one of those, is is nice?

If you own there is it easy to get in? I was told with my membership it was really hard.

I will actually own 3 of the 2 bedroom units (with my last purchase I just made) we love to travel with a lot of people and it is easier for me to do that if I purchase larger resorts that we all would like and we go between all of our resorts. When we are not using them we rent them out.

I have been lucky and have been able to rent all of mine that I am not using and I have only exchanged once in the last 3 years.

We are going to have about 14+ people next year when we go back to Cancun and I have been looking at that Melia.

What is the MAS card and how do you get it?

Oh the Cozumel location is only a $50.00 transfer fee (I got my last one for $1318 including purchase price, transfers fees, closing and this years usage).

Susan

Hi Susan,

I own two older memberships (before points) with Melia, one at the Paradisus in Punta Cana, DR and the other in Cabo. I love the Paradisus so we usually use both weeks there. We also travel with other people and they will allow me to accelerate off the end of our contracts, so I am able to book 4 units per year. They will also let you book additional weeks 45 days out, if they are available, just for the cost of your maintenance fees. To exchange into another resort than your ownership, I believe it is only $20.

I have owned these memberships for 8 years and have always found them extremely easy to work with. I also like that the all-inclusive is optional. In Punta Cana we always purchase the AI just because there aren't any places in the area to go to and they have 9 restaurants, which the ones I have tried have all been very good.

I too, have always been able to sell my weeks that I don't use online.

Next year we are going to try the Melia Puerto Vallarta for the first week and then stay at Los Tules (RHC) for our 2nd week.

BTW, I was told that my closing for my additional RHC points would be closed by 4/30. Do you really think that is possible? How are your unifications going?

Wendi

Hi Wendy,

I think it will, it didn't take the RHC long once they received my paperwork for one of my contracts.

The other one is a different story but that is not RHC fault, the owner ex-husband is in a mental hospital and they need his signature and I think they are having problems getting it due to his condition.

They have to wait until this one to do the Unify otherwise it will cost me more.

I got a great surprise on the one that closed.. 2 days ago I got a call from RHC saying that they saw that I purchased a resale unit, they noticed that the old owners did not use their 2007 points and that they expired already.

They allowed me to pick a units in Sept. and deposit them with anyone but RCI (RCI normally picks there weeks and since the resort was picking them for me I needed to use someone else.. which worked out better for me anyways)

I was able to get 2 studios in Cabo and a one bedroom in Orlando with those points.. I then gave them to Vacation Internationale (one of my other timeshares) and was able to trade them for 3- 2 bedroom units over New Years for 4 nights each.. my total cost was $478 in exchange and cleaning fees.. We are so excited!!!

Wendy,

Do you know if they have good scuba diving near the Punta Cana location... I am so glad to hear that you can go to that resort I was not sure if I could.

Have you used the 45 days or less rates before? Is it hard to get larger units or is it mostly hotel units?

I am glad to hear that you like your membership, we saw the grounds in Cabo a few years ago and it looked really nice and we also just walked around the one in Cancun but I have not been able to see the rooms yet. We are not too picky so I think it will be fine for us regardless of what they look like.

Do they raise the m/f or AI fees very much each year?

TIA
Susan

Wendy,
What is the name of the resort you like so much in Punta Cana? I'm a Melia owner w/ 3 others at the Playa Conchal in Costa Rica.

As far as the MAS card, we got ours on the Sol Melia website. Make sure everyone is listed when you check in. If they are listed, you can take advantage of the 2X1 breakfast, saving $18 per morning. (Or something close to $18...can't remember for sure the cost.) Also 15% off on the restaurant tabs and at the deli.

We didn't use the A/I feature, it's optional. We used the MAS card instead.

Hi Susan,

Don't you just love good surprises? Especially for what you had to pay for the initial points.

I do not scuba dive, but I know they have a certification program through the Paradisus, so it must be pretty good scuba diving.

The maintenance fees have not raised much per year, I am very happy with this membership. I only own a studio, I have stayed in the one bedroom/2 bath units in Punta Cana. I was told I could upgrade to a larger unit 45 days out, if available.

Wendi

Monica,

The resort name is Paradisus Punta Cana. I once booked a week in Costa Rica, but had to sell it because we were unable to go. I still would like to go to Costa Rica, it sounds really nice.

I will keep the MAS card in mind. Especially when going to Puerto Vallarta next spring. When travelling to Punta Cana, you really need to do the all-inclusive because there aren't a lot of options outside of the resort.

Wendi

I don't know when I'll get there, but I wrote down the name of the resort. I just won't do A/I in Mexico. DR-yes I will!

I hope that in 2010 we can do the D.R. we wanted to go next year but we are traveling with family and this is their first time out of the country.. Cancun is cheaper to get to and if we use Alaska Airlines we can get the companion for $50 plus tax.

I was told they are working on my 2nd RHC and maybe tomorrow it will be done. I am hoping they are unifying them too... I will know tomorrow and keep you posted.

Monica... thanks for the information on the MAS we will have to try that out in Cancun, I thought they had kitchens in the unit since they don't we might take the AI, we like it since we mostly eat and hang out at the hotel.

Thanks
Susan

Oops, Susan, they probably do have kitchens. I was posting based on my great experience there! We just had a suite (an upgraded hotel room basically). But the MAS card gave 15% off all food, except room service.

I can't wait to go back to the Melia! So beautiful!

I might have to talk my husband into changing our plans and going to the Melia next year instead of the Moon Palace.

We own at both but the water is so much nicer then the Moon Palace beach, but we really like all of the restaurants at the Moon Palace so it is really a toss up.

We are taking several family members with us and this will be their first time in Cancun so I want to make sure they really love it.

Have you been to the Cozumel location?

Is it a one time fee for the MAS card or each time you purchase it?

Is it worth it to get the gold and do you know the cost?

TIA
Susan

Considering buying a resale Melia Cozumel, help please.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to ask some of you current Melia Vacation Club owners a question. If I buy a resale week at Melia Cozumel with usage weeks of 15-46 in a studio, does that mean that I can obtain a studio at say Gran Melia Cancun or Melia Cabo Real during the same weeks, or does ownership in that lesser season (compared to a platinum weeks 1-52) not allow me to trade in other resorts or is there some time of penalty (maybe have to use 2 weeks to trade for 1)? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
