If you cancel your fixed week reservation, can you use it to make a home resort reservation at the same resort, or can you only make a StarOption reservation?

The rules say I can for my fixed weeks at WSJ VGV between the 10 month and 8 month points. The VSN implementation does not support it particularly well, while it could be possible that there is never any availability at that time frame, I have been able to reserve a three week stay in the same unit type including my season at the 8 month point (i.e., starting in week 49 and including week 51) so I know the availability exists to support me making a home resort reservation. The platinum plus season is 1-15 and 51-52, so it does come up for me if I choose not to use or rent my weeks in 1-15. My work around has been to do that starting with a week 49 or 50 date and running through the 51-52 dates I want, then having customer service modify the reservation at the 8 month point to eliminate the earlier dates I don't want/need. It ties up some extra StarOptions for about two weeks and is a bit of a pain, but those weeks are at least in a lower season and cost less. I would prefer that they actually implement the ability to float a home resort week as the rules allow, but doing this does give me a bit more flexibility as it doesn't actually require a floating home week for the year. It only works for a calendar like the WSJ one where it's got the tail end weeks 51 & 52; it wouldn't work well for a different calendar where the week someone wants is further into the season (e.g., Los Cabos where the platinum plus is 1-23 and 44-52, though Thanksgiving week would be within reach).

I did it with my 2026 week at HRA. I cancelled my fixed week reservation for June and booked a week in July at the 12 month mark. I could see there was availability in my room type leading up to the date i wanted to go and had no issues getting it, but I could see that not all room types were available.

Yes. We were at an owner’s update recently where this was confirmed.

I read OP's question to be more along the lines of whether you can actually do that rather than whether you are supposed to be able to do that. Having a salesman confirm that the rules say you can do it is a bit different from being able to do it in real life with the software implementation for the reservation system not necessarily being set up to allow an owner to do what the rules say can be done.

We own a WLR Fixed Event Week. It automatically books. We can cancel the week and book a WLR home resort reservation in the platinum plus season.

Fixed weeks at Westin KOR, KORN and Nanea can also float with the 12 month reservation priority as a floating week within the same view category.
