Can someone explain to me about mandatory resorts? Do you get to have the starpoints also or just staroptions?
I have Vistana Casades that I purchased from the developer and 2 SDO bought resale, one I converted to program with the Vistana purchase? Please advise as I would like to understand this whole process better. :wall: Thanks a bunch!!!

Mandatory purchases will only provide StarOptions. Ability to convert to SPG Points only comes with a "re-qual"

By "re-qual" you mean a purchase from the developer, correct? Are there any $ limits? Thanks.

Hi Carol - The is an entire article in Owner Resources at the top of the board that discusses Requalifying.

There is also a Starwood FAQ at the top of the board that will answer most of your questions about how Starwood works. Check it out and then come back and tell us what questions you still have.

*I am going to move your post to a new thread, since it isn't about rescinding.

Just one little thing, "Requaliflying" is a term that only Tuggers use. Starwood uses the term "Retro"

The term "grandfather' was also used by my salesperson, but actually it is a document that allows the unit be in SVN (the doc has a name that escapes me but is mentioned by negma in the Requal thread -and I mentioned it in my experience which is linked in the Requal thread). This document doesn't use either term (retro or requal).

Starwood also has this trick up their sleeve called Phantom Options. They can add StarOptions to your account for timeshares you own that are not even SVO units. These options will count towards your upgrade to a higher elite status, but can not be traded for vacation time. For example, if you own 130,000 StarOptions and get 30,000 Phantom options, you will be over the 159,000 requirement for 3* elite.

Salesmen may throw in "phantom options" to represent third party TSs (e.g. Marriotts) in order to get you to the next elite level (e.g. 3 star) if you're close to the next level. These phantom options can't be used for anything except elite status. You cannot use them as a vehicle of exchanging within SVN.
