Moderators, I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong place.

I am just wondering…does Marriott have the right of first refusal on resales(weeks or points).
If so, how can a listing for a resale be listed as free? Thanks.

Yes they have right of first refusal at most properties.

Weeks can be listed for free because even MVC knows that some weeks are worth less than nothing.

Thank you. So therefore, these “worthless” weeks pass ROFR….
I am asking because we own a resale gold season week in Surfwatch. We love it and go every year, however my kids are not interested in it for the future once we no longer want to use it. Therefore, I am just thinking ahead for how to exit or get rid of it.

Appreciate your response.

Yeah, MVC doesn't necessarily want every possible week back, even for free. That doesn't mean that nobody else would find value in having it. Case in point, I was gifted a free Marriott week from a generous TUG user in the past. It was a Silver week, so generally considered to be of no value to practically everyone. Certainly seemed to be of no value to MVC, who very quickly waived ROFR. And yet for my family it enables us to easily spend Thanksgiving on a regular basis in a place that we like. MFs are cheaper than a hotel room, while giving us a condo that is much more comfortable. I suppose I could rent via sites like Redweek, but the MFs aren't much more than rentals I've seen, and reserving an owned week has, for me at least, been less hassle.

Of course, that is a single anecdotal experience. I have no insight into how MVC decides whether or not to exercise ROFR on a given deed. And a lot of folks may find your deed desirable, or they may not. But all it takes is one.

A gold Surfwatch week will go quickly as a giveaway, and Marriott might exercise ROFR on it, because there aren't a ton of Surfwatch weeks in the Trust. But, either way, you should be able to transfer it easily when the time comes. (I know that I would be interested in a free gold Surfwatch week once my DD is no longer in college!)

It doesn't matter if it passes ROFR or not. Either way, you get rid of it.

gold surfwatch is a very good time for golf on HHI.
What are the maintenance fees?
