Question about RCI

I have a week coming up at [deleted] booked through RCI . I am unable to make it and would like to know my options. Being a Wyndham owner it looks like I would be out half the points and the booking fee if I cancel. Is there any other options? I don't really understand how they can forbid me from renting it out. Has anyone ever rented out an RCI property? How can they enforce this policy?

RCI can forbid it, because it is stated in the terms and conditions that you agreed to when you joined RCI. They can enforce it, because they have control of your account.

However, if you quietly rent it to friends or family who understand the situation, you probably won't get caught.

But, if you advertise it to strangers on the internet, you have a much higher chance of getting caught because they may inadvertently, or intentionally turn you in to RCI.

Also - people who see your Ad and know, or discover that it's an RCI exchange, may turn you into RCI.

RCI will know you are transferring the reservation, because you have to buy a Guest Certificate from them.
 
As for other options: You may be able to pay a small fee to have all of your points returned, instead of just half of them. RCI calls this "cancel protection." Call and see if it is an option. Depending on the fee and how many points you are talking about, it might be worth it.
