Hello,

My question is when you have hilton honors gold status and stay at a hilton timeshare resort that is also a hilton hotel do you get the benefits of your gold status like free internet & breakfast included? or with the timeshares don't this carry over.

It does not carry over. This may vary by location, but they are very explicit about this at HCNY, as one example. We are HHonors Diamond and when we stayed there as HGVC members, we were very explicitly excluded from all Diamond benefits - breakfast, Executive Lounge access.

I don't know offhand of other joint locations, but I would guess that this policy would be systemwide.

Cheers.

Yes, HHonors benefits only apply to reservations through Hilton.com. hotel bookings (not Reservation made via HGVC or RCI).

See the HHonors Terms and Condition page for details on what to expect at the various Hilton brands for Hilton.com reservations - http://hhonors3.hilton.com/en/terms/index.html

Not precisely true. They are somewhat silent on the subject of whether HHonors benefits apply when reservations are booked through a third party. We use AA miles for Hilton stays quite a lot and always get our Diamond benefits. They are not required to do it, but the T&Cs are not explicit about this like they are about stay and night credit.

Cheers.

About the only hotel/timeshare chain that gives you anything for hotel status on a timeshare stay is Marriott. Each week I stay at a Marriott timeshare earns me 500 points (as a Marriott Platinum Check-in Amenity) and 7 nights towards elite status in the hotel program. A few weeks of timeshare stays, combined with 15 points for the Marriott Visa, goes a long way towards renewing status.

For that reason (and the fact that they're generally nice timeshares) I prefer exchanges into Marriott timeshares when I have a choice.

While I knew the rules, I was still a disappointed when I missed diamond by one stay and had two timeshare stays last year. They ended up giving me status when I wrote them but still eats at me a little.

From what I've heard, most of them usually extend status automatically if you're close. Surprised you had to ask, but glad they extended it when you did.

While I might expect to get to use my HHonors benefits while staying in the timeshare at the same location, I would never expect that a timeshare stay would qualify as a Hilton stay. First, it is explicitly listed in the rules as absolutely not a qualifying stay. Second, it would never even occur to me to think that it might. I guess I'm just surprised that you're surprised :)

I think that they gave it to you for being close, and not for timeshare stays.

Cheers.

You're correct.
I was trying to stress the point that it has to be a hotel booking (vs a hgvc points stay or RCI exchange stay). I should not have said hilton.com.

If staying at a HGVC property as a hotel-guest, Gold-status has a few benefits:
-- Two bottles of water per stay
-- 1,000 Hilton HHonors points per stay
From the "MyWay Hotel Benefits" page on the HHonors website.

I have elite silver status ( poor resale buyer). Two weeks ago I checked into garden inn and was not even offered two bottles of water. When I asked he obliged and immediately got me two free bottles of water.

That's one amenity I wish they would do away with because of the excessive plastic waste. We get offered these all the time as Diamond and we simply decline.

Cheers.

Good thinking. What do you drink?

Tap water. In all but a very few places it tastes no different from bottled water. And the purity standards are at least as good as bottled water. I bring a Nalgene bottle with me when I travel and carry that around.

That, and alcohol, of course :)

Cheers.

I always get HHonors poits and benefits if my reservation is made through my corporate travel company. I guess they don't want to risk losing the "corporate business" hotel nights. That has to be a big revenue item to them.
