Our family is scheduled to go to Oahu, Hawaii on Aug 28 but we are seeing the news about surging covid cases and also just saw the news about their governor Ige suggesting people not to visit hawaii at this time. We are debating on cancelling this trip. My question is what is the policy on cancellation? I understand you lose your booking fee but do you lose your points (we used 2021 points). I am not sure how this works since I have nevered cancelled a trip a couple days before we left

Right now you can cancel any reservation and get your points back as long as you make that cancellation by September 30th. Normally, you have to cancel 31 days prior or they start penalizing you (reduce the amount of points the give back). Due toCovid disrupting travel, they have waived that penalty.

You are clear to cancel your trip. You can always call customer service and have them make the cancellation.

But keep in mind that your air, while it can probably be canceled, must be used within one year of when you booked it, not one year from when you were supposed to travel. So if you planned ahead and purchased air 8 months ago, you only have 4 months. I think that is an AWFUL policy, but it appears to be widespread.

Thank you for answering

But check the airline. Some allow the new booking to be made by that date, meaning that one actually has 11 months more to fly. Some (WN included), require travel to be completed by that date, so more restrictive.

I actually find the new rules quite lenient considering that everyone who had them did away with related fees.

Cheers.

We have a VIP week with HGVC that has already be rescheduled twice on 9/9-9/16 at HHV in Oahu. Secondly, HGVC has told us that the deadline for the VIP (pre-paid) is the end of the year. I don't know if they will allow another extension. We may be looking at forfeiting our money. We will be canceling. It is just not worth the all the hassle, waits, higher prices etc... There is an experience that we have come to expect and look forward to that will be drastically reduced.

We also want to be respectful of the situation in Oahu. It's not just Covid but any illness, injury requiring a hospital visit by a tourist will put undue strain on the limited medical care system.

Mastectomy delayed due to Covid. This is happening right now on Oahu.

We had United flights that were booked in 1/2020, that we had to cancel in 8/2020 that were credited to an Electronic Ticket Credit that is good for two years from the cancellation date. We have flights booked to the Big Island in early October that look like a bust at this point.

We cancelled Oct 1 Big Island/Oahu trip. Still have to canx HGVC-HHV part. Wondering if they'll bank those points to 2022 for free as I already paid to bank my other 2021 points into 2022.

Just call HGVC and rep will bank the rest of the 2021 points to 2022 for free since you already paid the banking fee for 2021.

UPDATE:
We were able to cancel the VIP reservation for Sept and HGVC extended the deadline through Aug 2022.
