If I want to book a week in mid March 09 at Mayan Palace as an owner, can I book it on the 1st day of October?

Thanks

I think you should be able to book September 1, 2008 - they open up the entire month on thethe first day of the month 6 months before (I would pay your mf several days in advance of then so that that issue is out of the way). I'd be concerned that waiting til October there wouldn't be anything left where you want to go. I would also either book online, or call their Houston number long distance - not the 1-800 number which always seems to be busy - at least for me.

I plan to book mine September 1. Since it is a holiday, it will be more difficult as everyone will be trying to do it online. I hope it works - it did not on July 1 for January - I had to call in and that took until about 3 PM Pacific Time.

The reservations office is in Houston so they will be most likely closed on 9/1. I know that the website will often say there are no units available but if you call you will find availability.

Here you go (713) 888-0499 I am usually online in the reservations section of the owners website when I call these guys as well. As to the time they open...I would call their 1-800 reservation number and ask their people there what time they open for reservations (and could you p0lease post that info if you call them??)- I have heard 7:00 a.m. but can't quite remember.

I called July 31 to ask what time they opened and I was told by a reservation person that it was 6:00am central time, (4:00am our time) but when I started calling, I got a recording saying they opened at 7:00am!!! So at 7:00am (5:00am our time!) I started dialing. I would dial, hang up on the busy signal, and immediately redial hoping to sneak in when someone hung up. I did this for THREE solid hours. My husband and I took turns!!! I finally got in, three hours later, and all the 2 bedrooms were already gone at Nuevo so I had to book a one bed and a studio. Actually I was up most of the night because I was trying to do it online but it would not let me because I hadn't paid mt. fee yet, I guess, even tho the reservation guy told me the day before that I could pay online. I wrote a letter to the management saying how hard it was for the 6mo deadline because you have to get your flights before that and just HOPE for your reservation to match. I got a nice response saying "they are considering it" Why don't more members write and say the same thing and maybe we can get the time extendedto 12 months?

If I pay the maintenance fee in advance and then don't get what I want can I ask for a refund of my maintenance fees since they are offerning that you don't pay MF if you don't visit??? Just wondering and not looking forward to the process and yes, I will write to them.

That would be great if the Mayan would start taking reservations a year out. Last year we went to Mx on spring break which fell on Easter week so We banked our week and picked up a week at an AI resort. Last Aug I found out out the dates of our kids school break and put a search in for the week I banked with RCI. So Feb of 08 RCI called and had my week I started watching flights and in July finally booked them there wasnt any stress involved of booking flights and trying to match up the week. With this year not having to pay the MF not sure if I should just pay and bank the week for a no stress reservation again next year. You have to pay the exchange fee but in the long run I think its worth it to have everything confirmed early!Who knows what gas will cost and what flights will be up to by Sept. I think its a great idea to contact the resort to get policy changed. I will do it also.

Again, today, I got a second nice letter from Mayan apologizing for the inconvenience in booking my reservation. She said they were aware of the problems and working on a better reservation system, what ever that means??
Please Mayan members, email them and plead for a 12 month reservation timeline. I think they are thinking about it. So let them hear from you, too, please!

Except that sometimes airfare is tough at six months out. I don't want to jinx myself, but getting through on the phone has rarely been my problem. Airfare however . . .

Many people just don't plan that far ahead....so allowing for 12 month out would eliminate the stampede on the first of the month for prime months....

We've timeshared many years and I think we know most of the rules. Still think 12 months would relieve some of the jam up at 6 mos. And make getting airfare easier. Booking online did not work for me and ,as I said, I redialed every 30 seconds for THREE solid hours starting the EXACT time they opened the reservation phone line.
We own three other timeshares besides Mayan and we have NEVER had any trouble booking our vacation time with them.

To which email address should I send the request for 12 month booking? Is there an address that goes directly to the top? I will type a form letter to bring with on our next vacation and share with other owners. It sure would make planning easier at 12 months.

I've been sending my emails to laurieconnors@grupomayan.com I think she
is a customer relations person, but she says she passes all coments on to the main people. She says they are very interested in the wishes of their members. So, we'll see.

Reservation offices are no longer here in Houston. They've been relocated to Mexico City. Accounting is still here in Houston, though.

Jana

No, the MP in Acapulco isn't complete. They are not offering upgrades to the GM. They are giving 2 1-bedrooms. The new building, that isn't where the old building was, won't be done before year-end. But will be by early 2009. (I just wish it was on the beach, instead of the golf course! That's where the 2-bedroom units will be until the new bldg (a few years down the road) will be completed where the old 2-bedroom bldg was.)
