Queens Hospital is located in Honolulu for those who don't know.

I watched a TV show about the working of their ER, ICU, Triage, etc. Don't know when it was filmed.

A 47 year old man from Montana (I believe) had been body surfing on Maui somewhere (don't know where) and was slammed into the ocean floor when a random big wave came along.

He had no feeling below his neck but could shrug his shoulders. He communicated by winking once for yes, twice for no. Surgeons screwed a titanium brace into his neck so his head wouldn't droop to his breast bone.

You guessed it. He is now a quadraplegic.

One of the surgeons said the Ocean is the most dangerous part of Hawaii.

Please be careful on your vacation.

One thing I was told when I first moved to Hawaii about 30 years ago is:

NEVER TURN YOUR BACK TO THE OCEAN.

Maybe it is a good thing we went to Straub Hospital instead, when we were in Honolulu last month and my wife fell down and broke her wrist. The orthopedic surgeon who operated on her wrist did an excellent job according to our local orthopedic doctor.

Don't understand your comment.

The poor guys spine was broken.

I understand Queens is the finest hospital on the Islands.

Glad your wife got good care.

You indicated he could move part of his body before he was treated, but can't afterward.

Quadriplegics can't move their arms or legs. The nerves that allow one to shrug shoulders are higher up in the central nervous system.

I think the confusion with the original post is that there was a thumbs down next to the heading: Queen's Medical Center Trauma Unit which could be taken to mean that they did something wrong.
