Hi ya'll.. sorry to keep bugging you guys with my questions but my girlfriend and I have so many questions regarding timesharing that you guys are the only owners resource we have. A question we had which wasn't answered yet because we've been searching the tugboards like maniacs is... we are very picky with the resorts we vacation too. Out of curiosity, are the timeshare resorts listed on II and RCI to a high calibur? If not, have you guys had experiences with dealing with horrible resorts, if so what did RCI or II do to compensate you guys? Thanks again...
Anthony

Resorts vary quite a bit. Your best bet is to join TUG and then you can search through the ratings and reviews.

II and RCI will accept nearly anything.

This thread has a lot of info. about resort quality - Worst Timeshare You've Stayed In.

If you join TUG you will have access to the Member's Only Review Pages with reviews written by knowledgeable Tuggers. That's your best source for accurate resort information.

You are far better off to do your homework and exchange for a resort that you have confidence in, than to take a chance and then try to get compensation.

P.S. Anthony, joining TUG was on of the best investments I have ever made.

The Resort Reviews database is very useful in helping to get a sense of a resort, but then I would say that wouldn't I? (See my signature below :) )

In answer to the broader question of resort quality - not even all Gold Crown or 5 Star resorts are of equal standard. You will also find if you travel outside the USA that the rating also means different things in different countries.

We traded into Club Chalet of Gatlinburg. The unit was a horror story. We complained to the people in the check in office and got no satisfaction. When we got home we complained to Interval. They waived the exchange fee for our next exchange. After that I do alot of homework before trading. I call and ask alot of questions and ALWAYS call to verify the check in times on the Exchange Confirmation. Don't take things for granted just because a resort is a member of II or RCI. Sometimes you can find info out about a resort on the net too. Yes, joining TUG is a great idea to read the reviews. Just remember they are just opinions because I've gone to resorts that have received so so reviews and I didn't find a problem.

After TSing for sometime, I would say on average the accomadations we have stayed in were about a 7.5-8.0 on a scale of 1 to 10, but if I rate them along against some of the best hotels I stayed at, it just doesn't add up. There are a few that are definate 10s but only a few. So if you want high calibor hotel luxury and pampering TSing may not be for you, as you will most likely be dissappointed with not having cleaning service, room service, or elite onsite restaurants at every trade. For us its just fine as we would be content at most 5-6 resorts as long as the location is where we want, but have been very happy with the 7.5-10s we have stayed in through TSing and having a kitchen and washer/dryer in our room, not to mention onsite activities - which I think is also where TSers shine. Also, the one and only time I had a bad experience, RCI reimbursed me my week traded and my trade cost...The resorts generally will not do this as they didn't do the booking.

My experiences have been very good

Have been TSharing for a couple of years now and maybe I have been fortunate not to get burnt yet. But so far I have been very pleased with my exeriences. I have stayed in Spain, St Maarten (twice) and Sedona, with trips planned for Mesquite NV and Las Vegas, Fairmont Hot Springs and
Buenos Aires and Orlando (Marriott Grande Vista) this year. Incidently, my Company Trip is taking me to the Westin Mission Hills Resort & Villas in Rancho Mirage, CA which is a timeshare listed in II. We only go to top rated resorts (hotel or otherwise) for our company trip.

Having said all of that, I actually agreed that compared to the Hotel world, you probably can get a higher level there than in Timesharing on average. But for me, I actually do not like the highest level hotels...I find the experience a bit much a lot of "a do about nothing".
