Will bring home our 3rd schnauzer Wednesday. We are really excited! we were going to wait until spring but decided to do it now. We are familiar with the breed and have had and loved 2 salt and pepper ones. This female is black. We will call her Viki. We can't wait. We will miss the liberty we had after fredi died 5 years ago, but they bring such joy and love we decided to do it again. Hope she is healthy!!

Joyce,

Congratulations on your new arrival! We share your love of dogs, but know that they are just like having a child that needs a baby sitter when you go on vacations. We have gotten so that we leave Muffin with our Vet, which is a little more pricey than doggy-day care, but we rest easier knowing that she is in good hands. Puppies are just the greatest, next to grandkids!

Congratulations on your new family member. I adore puppies!!

I now only adopt older dogs because we aren't home enough during the day for housebreaking a puppy and the day would be way to long for a little bladder. Maybe we'll have the joy of another puppy in a few years.

Best wishes. I'm sure you'll enjoy her.

Joyce,

Our first mini schnauzer was salt-and-pepper, and our second was black. Overall great dogs (as you might guess), just a tad aggressive with small kids.

Enjoy!!!! :whoopie:

One side topic..... Did you all see "Marley & Me"? That was a little too much for our family :bawl: --- especially with our current dog being named "Marley"..

Congratulations on your puppy!

We have 3 mini schnauzers, one S&P, one Black and one White. The black one is named Elvira (mistress of the dark). They are soooooo much fun to be around; I love every minute I spend with them. But they can be very, very vocal. Don’t know how they are around children since it’s only SWMBO & I. Enjoy!

We have had 3 mini schnauzers and we probably would never get a different breed. Our current one is KC and she is 13 1/2 yrs old, pretty fiesty for her age but requires lots of $$ for vet care (next dog will have health insurance). Good luck with your new puppy...nothing like a puppy! Linda

Just took our newly aquired mini schnauxer, Viki, to the vet today for a puppy checkup. She has kennel cough which we suspected. She does not cough at all during the day, only at night. He also took xrays and the lungs are clear, thank God. We did what we said we would never do and bought her from a reputable puppy store, which most likely got her from a puppy mill. I know we should not have done it, but her temperament is so good that we could not resist. Our last 2 dogs were from area breeders and they both were sickly. One had Adissons disease and the other had seizures. I feel guily having bought her from a store, but we could not resist. Hopefully, things will work out for the best. We avoided getting another dog for 5 long years and made this hasty decision. I hope some of you have had some good experiences with puppy store puppies. Joyce

Hi Joyce,

I hope your puppy responds well to the treatment and is a happy, healthy dog. I have two cocker spaniels, and I got the first one from a pet store near my home. Like you, I know that's not the best place to find a dog. In fact, I'm a strong supporter of Best Friends, the Humane Society, etc. But I wouldn't feel too guilty about it. If you fall for a dog, you fall for him. I didn't plan to get a dog when I walked into the store, but there he was.

Rusty is 10 years old now. He's still a playful, fun loving, adorable dog who gets attention wherever he goes. He has had some health issues...mainly allergies which cause ear infections...but he's great dog. I wouldn't have wanted to miss out on having him as part of my family just because he came from a pet store.

Well, I can't speak to schnauzers: we have always had Scotties (Scottish Terriers). Three were from breeders and one from a puppy mill. The healthiest of the lot was from the puppy mill. She never got sick and lived to be 16. The others died at various ages, but none older than 11. One of our scotties was a show dog and then got Cushings Disease. He died at 10 1/2, unfortunately a victim of the bad dog food. I guess it just shows that you can get a healthy dog at a puppy mill and one not so healthy from a reputable breeder.
Now, we only adopt rescues from the Scottish Terrier Club. And all that we require is a nice disposition, altered, and hopefully housebroken. We've been blessed. Good luck with your new baby. :cheer:

We've had two schnauzers and one yorkie, all great dogs RIP. They all did well with small children. Our first schnauzer was very vocal but the second was not. My hubby said no more dogs after we lost the last. He now says he misses having a dog to clean up the crumbs on the floor

Joyce, our 1st schnauzer was purchased at a puppy store. She got sick right away when we took her home and the vet said kennel cough. It was touch and go for a while but she survived and the puppy store paid the vet bill. She lived to be almost 11 and was the best dog I have ever seen or had. Our 2nd schnauzer was purchased from a young couple who are what we call "back yard breeders". The had 2 adult schnauzers who had litters when ever possible. This was a male schnauzer and he too lived to be about 11. He was a good dog but had quite a few health issues. Our current baby is 13 1/2 and is an angel. She has had her own health issues but who doesn't. She too came from a back yard breeder. We just picked her up from the vet..had her teeth cleaned and some growths removed ($505.50) and she is asleep in her bed on the kitchen floor. I have known dogs who were from top breeders and they were not any more special than my little dogs. Good luck with your baby.

We had Viki reviewed by our vet ahd he says that she will be fine. The Kennel Cough ish't too bad and is responding to treatment. She slept in her crate for 6 hours last night and did not cry or cough. He was impressed with her good nature and is sure she will be a great dog. Of course we already know that. Thanks for helping me get over my puppy store pruchase guilt. Joyce
