My wife and I are thinking of buying a sunset biannual week resale .As we
love PB mazatlan we would like some insights on the internal exchange program
between the PB resorts? Any information you could give me would be appreciated
as sale is pending.I know about RCI etc but know nothing of the PB internal like
cost ,availability ,extra weeks For example I would like to go every other year
to PB Mazatlan what would I have to go through to accomplish that and at what
cost.Any other information you could give me would be appreciate
Tom

PB Sunset Beach

I own at Sunset Beach and also Emerald Bay. The PB resorts do not have an internal exchange program. You need to bank the week with RCI and then trade it. You do however get priority with the other PB resorts. They also have a special section in RCI for PB members. They are great resorts in my opinion.

PB exchanges

My opinion is that they have a great product and customer service. We are not owners but visited recently at Sunset Beach. Loved every minute of the week stay. Beautifully maintained and great food at reasonable price. Costco nearby, easy driving distance from airport.

My only concern is that trading thru RCI - you might think that you are trading down as there might not be many resorts that are comparable to the PBonito resorts.

However, I took a tour and thought that they have their own club for last min getaways that are for their members that would save you money if you want more travel options. Not sure if you would qualify if purch resales.

I own both Maz and Sunset. You can call the RCI desk a year ahead or more and trade your Sunset week without paying the maintenance fee ( you can't do that with Mazatlan - the old resort management is a bit different in rules). The fee is $29. You can request first in effect. I called last May and requested Emerald Bay for Oct 2007 and I was given a 2 bedroom in exchange for my Sunset one bed exec. I love PB and am very happy with the internal program. You will have no trouble trading into Mazatlan whenever you wish. You can also split your week and spend part in town and part at Emerald bay. If you buy Mazatlan you have to pay the MF before banking your week and you have to call and get a week assigned and deposited for you in RCI. I have been given nice weeks for deposit. The week is then in your account and you can trade it online through RCI. You can see lots of trades into PB resorts that don't show up to others when you search using that week. You can often trade up to a larger size unit than your ownership week. We just took the option last August to extend our contract for a full 100 year membership for an additional $1400. We bought the contract for $6000 on the secondary market. I would look for a membership that has been upgraded and if not, call and ask the membership desk at Sunset and see if you can still upgrade to the longer contract Good luck.

Sunset shows up alot on extra vacations with RCI wouldn't it be cheaper to go that route or even rent instead of buying another timeshare membership? If you already own a PB you can always get a studio on extra vacations and owners have no 1/4 rule.
I do agree that the PB Sunset is totally awesome. There are alot of contracts out there for resale just take your time and have fun with it.

How far is it between the Sunset and Rose. We have family in the Rose but were able to get into the Sunset. What is the difference between the Junior Suite and the studio?

Dist btw Sunset and Rose

Distance is about 15 min easy car ride or about 25 min free bus ride (compliments of the resorts).

At Sunset going to Rose - In the morning - you usually do not have to make reservations - but it is best if you do. In the PM - going to Rose - they are stricter w/ needing reservation tix before boarding. (I usually have reservations tix as I am very careful about everything).

From Rose returning to Sunset - they are very strict and only let you board if have reservations tix. Be sure to make reservations early or you will not get the desired time you want.

Example: When you arrive at Rose and want to come back to Sunset at 8pm - need to get your return bus tix as soon as you arrive to Rose.

Should also ensure that you know what time the last bus runs.

Tax cost is about $12 per car holding about 4 adults.

There is a free shuttle between the Sunset and the Rose if you don't have a rental car. I believe it runs hourly up to about 10 or 11 p.m. As for the exact distance, I'm not sure--5 miles maybe? I think it takes about 10-15 minutes as it goes through town.

As for the difference between the studio and Jr. Suite, I think they are about the same. I looked at the floorplan of the Rose Jr. Suite and it's about 538 sq. ft. including the 66 sq. ft. terrace. You enter the unit with a closet on the right or left, pass through the kitchenette with the bathroom on the right or left, go into the sleeping area with two beds, into the lving area with two chairs and small table, and go out through sliding doors to the small terrace with two chairs and small table.

I believe the set-up at Sunset Beach is similar but with more square footage as the units are larger over there.

You'll have access to all the amenities of all the Pueblo Bonito resorts and you can charge restaurant/pool bar items to your room.

Hope you all have a great time.:)

internet service at Pueblo Bonito

Is there internet service at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset? Also has anyone had success with using the todo card there. What is the cost of a local call. Thanks.

Is there internet service at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset?
There is an internet cafe onsite near the market. It seems like it was rather spendy--something like $5 for 15 minutes, but I'm not certain. You may be able to pick up a wireless signal near the internet cafe if you have a laptop--you can do so at the Pueblo Bonito Rose near their internet cafe.

I'm not sure about the phone card, but I do know that cell service over at the Sunset is not very good because it's on the backside of a high hill. The only place I could use my cell phone was to walk along the road about even with the owner's mansion that sits above the beach.

Here's a copy of an email I received from Sunset:

Free high speed Internet access is available in Villas 19, 20, 21 & 22 and their connection is DSL. This feature will be added to all existing rooms in the future. In the meantime, free wireless service is available in the plaza outside the Sunset Chapel and in the Lobby. The Todito card does not work here.

The local phone call cost $6.00 pesos per conection

We have 2 delis on site.

Internet

In November when I was in Cabo I went to the Rose and used the Internet cafe there and it was $5 for 30 minutes. Not to bad when you only use it a couple of times a week to check email

Layout of Pueblo Bonito Sunset

Does anyone have a layout of Pueblo Bonito Sunset. Trying to figure out where Villas 19, 20, 21 & 22 are located.

Buildings 19-22 are built into a cliff above the main lobby. They have their own rooftop pool although you can also use any of the resort's other pools.
