Problem dealing with Progressive Auto Insurance

If your insurance company is willing to press the issue, they may be able to take his to arbitration, where he'll have to respond or lose.

My favorite "the other driver" story:
We were in the vicinity of Dollywood (Pigeon Forge) when a young guy decides to cross 2 lanes of traffic, and turn left to occupy the same space we did. I guess he didn't notice that we were in his way. His last name just happened to be "Parton." Cop comes, talks to Parton. issues no tickets. "He claims you moved into his lane of travel. I'm not sure what happened."

Our insurance company (Allstate) paid all but the deductible and took his (GEICO) to arbitration. About six months later, we got a check for our deductible. I was impressed.

My daughter's car was hit, or scraped, while parked in the carport at her apartment. The person who did it left a note. Strangely enough, he works for Allstate. She reported it to her insurance company, State Farm, and I thought they would take care of the whole thing. Oh no, she had to contact Allstate as well. The body shop wouldn't do an estimate or start work until Allstate okayed it. She did get them to pay the deductible and whole thing was taken care of pretty quickly, but I was surprised at how much of the work she had to do.
Hmmm. Common denominator here is State Farm. Her agent wanted her to call Progressive. He came to her house and called with her. Maybe State Farm has delegated task of first contact to client.

I've had State Farm for years. Not many claims, but in my experience they had always dealt with it. I had a recent claim for damage done to my car, most likely in a parking lot. Since they was no one else involved State Farm took care of it.

My major accident listed above in my post was claimed through State Farm. They handled the whole thing although I was interviewed, recorded, at least twice, because it was fairly complicated.

One thing to note is that we never call the agent when filing a claim. We call the insurance company call center for claims.

I think I called my agent. They put me through to the call center.

My Son got rear-ended at a traffic light. He took pictures of the damage, the other drivers insurance card, driver's license, etc and forwarded them to USAA. Within a couple of hours, they sent him an email telling him to take his car to (a reputable) body shop who did a great job at no cost to him. Same thing when his car was sideswiped while parked in front of his house. I know USAA gets criticism, but he had two great experiences with them...

I hope we have a good USAA experience too! We'd had Farmers Insurance for nearly 50 years years because we'd liked having a local agent but noticed he was doing nothing to be sure we got the best coverage for the best price as terms changed. We switched to USAA at a considerable savings. Now to see if they are as helpful and efficient as Farmers was when I got rear ended a few years ago. In both situations we were not at fault and had a police report to confirm that.

USAA is not the cheapest insurance out there, BUT it is one of the best for customer service.

They beat my Farmers by quite a bit on the car insurance. The house insurance was higher. So a wash. Also the customer Service was a lot better with USAA. Last year about this time we were in Cabo and much of Oregon had a very bad freeze. We called USAA on a Sunday from Mexico. The House lost power for 5 days. We had an upright Freezer in the Garage, a Side by Side in the Garage, and a Frig with Freezer in the House. We were concerned with Food loss. The Policy limit was only $500. The money was in our Account the next day.

Years ago I had two fender benders, both in parking lots and both my fault. My car was not damaged enough to matter. I was insured by State Farm, called their 800 number with details and other owner's info. Never heard back so I guess they handled other owner's damage. Incidentally they didn't cancel my insurance and to the best of my knowledge didn't increase my premium...
