Went to a presentation at Lakeshore this morning at 815AM. Got there exactly at 814AM and reception person checked us in and showed us where to sit to wait for our sales person.

Waited 10 minutes and a nice lady showed up and took us back to her office. She sat down and we exchanged greetings. Asked what she can sell us. Told her that we were here for the "new" information. She explained how they acquired Hyatt and some other stuff. Did not have a printout of what we owned so excused herself to find out.

Came back 20 minutes later with our ownership. Said our portfolio was extensive and what we needed to buy was more trust points to get us to 7000 trust points. I explained that we already have 5000 trust points and enough enrolled weeks that we qualified for chairman 10 times over. But she kept saying that I needed 7000 trust points to be considered VIP owner. Of course I asked what that meant. She told me that God forbid we lost our enrolled weeks, we would move down from Chairman's to executive. I said no problem as the only chairman's thing I used was the late banking of DC points. Tells me there is a way to ensure that never happens and will bring in manager to show me.

Manager comes in and she tells me they will pay me twice for a willowridge week if I used it as a trade in. In the end it was $42000 of new money to get 3000 trust points. Of course I said why I would spend $42K to buy 3k points. Then she went to the sheet I filled out and said I had more weeks than needed this year. She was proud and said for paying them $42K she would ensure that MVC take back "free and clear" the enrolled weeks I had. Thereby saving me $40K in maintenance fees for 2026. My $42K purchase would be even in that first year.

I was flabbergasted and responded " you want me to pay you $42K for 3000 trust points. Then MVC will take back my platinum willowridge, Harbour lake, Grand vista and Ko olina weeks?" She said yes and it was such a great deal that I would be crazy not to do this and save at least $40K in MF for 2026. I told her I would give away my weeks for free before paying MVC to take them back. She then countered with but you will have to pay closing costs to have someone take them. Plus you you will have to find 20+ people to take the weeks. She would save me all that work because MVC is being nice and will take all these worthless resale weeks back.

I thought in my mind this sales manager is nuts. With their price, I could pay someone $1500 for each week. I made a comment that I would do them better and take all the annual MKO ocean view weeks from them if they paid me $500 for each week transferred into my account. Then she said we don't have weeks to sell you. I responded you are not selling as MVC is going to pay me $500 to take the week. MVC will make $1500 for taking these worthless Ko Olina weeks from someone else and pay me to take them. Then MVC would not have to be holding these bad worthless weeks. She looked at me incredulously like I was crazy (same look I gave her when she told me to pay them to take back my weeks). Let's just say it went nowhere from that point. She said that this was a once in lifetime deal to get rid of those bad unwanted platinum weeks. It got so bad that she said we could leave and no closer even came to meet with us. Unfortunately this took the whole 75 minutes.

Sorry for long rant but will answer any questions if there are any.

I got $300 in visa gift card and $100 to use at a restaurant group for the 75 min presentation. Will see if I can schedule another presentation (for $300 plus $100) on Sunday when we check into Cypress Harbour.

God Grief they are really having to be creative to make us stuff to sell people what they don't need.

Thanks for the story, truly incredulous.

Hope you have a great vacation

Wow. I got a bit of a whopper shell game presentation about resale weeks here at Crystal Shores, but this is like an order of magnitude more crazy. I can't imagine the look on your face. LOL

$42K for 3000 points is the discounted retail rates. So you pay full price for the points and they will take back the weeks for no compensation?

I would have liked to have seen her face when she looked at your portfolio print out. I'm thinking her thought process was "I have to be really creative here" Maybe why it took 20 minutes to come back.:D

We got this same current pitch...pay to give back weeks. I had them call the "exit people" from the presentation to show them Marriott would in fact take back all of our weeks for "free." Giving back weeks with value for free is dumb, but not nearly as dumb as paying to have Marriott take them back.

Why would anyone buy the points directly from Marriott when there are plenty of people that will give you their's for free.

Mainly because the buyers in these situations have no idea there is even a resale market.

I definitely am confused. My reading comprehension skills are not the best.

At least the sales' manager at Westin Princeville was straightforward, honest, and just pitched a plan to convert our Shadow Ridge platinum weeks to Abound. He didn't make any pitch to take back our weeks and sell us higher-MF Trust Points.

Every sales person tries a different angle to see what might stick. They usually do this after consultations with the sales manager. Thus why the salesperson in the OP was gone for 20 minutes. Just like use car sales, the friendly person you are talking to at the beginning is just the puppet. There is a puppet master behind the scenes telling them what to say.

The first person is sometimes the biggest liar. Cindi at Westin Princeville was very dishonest in saying we could book our Westins 13 months ahead, if we buy more points directly from them. Total lie, really disingenuous. I told her we are already Chairman's Club and cannot book our Westins at 13 months out. No one can book ahead of 12 months out for Westin Ka'anapali. She was insistent. I just turned to Rick with exasperation, and he said, "Show us." She then got the sales' manager.

I think this is their new version of how to get money out of people who are chairman‘s club and beyond…. And they must be making an awful lot of commission money from the people who actually accept these offers.

We had a similar presentation in July at Oceana Palms, and I follow this board and have seen other people with similar offers.

These offers are insane, and I said so to the person number two who told us we would be crazy not to take this offer. I told her …. “ are you kidding me, this offer is crazy. I think I may have even laughed at her….perhaps I was borderline rude, but these offers are so bad for people who own weeks….. my husband said I did well because we didn’t get person number three trying to sell us a “come back for more torture” this time!

Yes that was her "selling point". MVC would do me a favor and take back these "worthless" platinum weeks.

Wow same play book MVC is using. Sounds like the same tactics they tried on me. I cannot believe anyone that owns enrolled weeks would even think of doing this. Goes against any common sense.

I didn't notice but my wife said that sales manager looked like she was going to kill me for not taking her offer.

We did get into it when i said I could just buy points on the resale market for half of what she wanted me to pay. She told me I would not be able to because MVC held ROFR. After a couple remarks from me that this was not true, she says that I would pay more than direct because MVC would charge me $6 per point for enrollment. I corrected her that it is $3 per point with $3000 minimum.

In essence MVC sales wanted me to pay them $42K for 3000 DC points. Then they will make it sweeter and take back all my platinum weeks for FREE. With MVC taking back these weeks, this would save me $40K by not having to pay 2026 maintenance fees. The MF savings would cover my $42k purchase price. So I would be getting the 3000 points for "FREE". Hence the once in a lifetime deal.

I told her why would I pay MVC to take my platinum units? I told her if these Ko Olina weeks are worthless, just pay me $500 and I'll take all these weeks from MVC. Thereby saving them the trouble of holding onto these "worthless" weeks. The look on her face was why would I pay you to take these platinum weeks. It was the same look I gave her when she wanted me to pay her $42k to take back my platinum MKO weeks.

I can't stop laughing. I love your logic of acting as if what she was saying was true, and it was your turn to be helpful.

I was at Lakeshore this morning. I was offered $300 to attend the meeting and the salesperson commented he was surprised I was offered so much since I just did a presentation at Westin Riverfront a few weeks ago. They tried to get me to upgrade to Presidential using all the expected reasons. I turned down the offer and they threw in a free 2 week stay in a 2BR anywhere without expiration. I was skeptical that I would be able to use it. I didn't ask for more detail. Otherwise it wasn't very high pressure, especially once I said I had to go and be somewhere. I also turned down the encore to come back to Orlando. The numbers just didn't make sense when I compared to a comparable week at a Getaway price.
