Potential timeshare owner

[Is it worth?]

I have been to different timeshare presentations including RCI in Alberta. I would like to get some inputs about the various selling groups / organizations and you appreciation of them. Is is worth the money? Any advice ?

Don't know about Alberta Province, but here south of the border RCI doesn't sell timeshares -- although many timeshares sell their units in the form of RCI Points.

Is is worth the money?

By me, timeshares are not worth it if bought at full freight for big bux from timeshare companies.

We like to enjoy luxury timeshare accommodations at Motel 6 & Super 8 rates. We can do that only by buying timeshares on the resale market for nickels on the full-freight dollar.

Any advice ?

Buy timeshares resale.

Save $10,000 (or more).

Also, buy your resale timeshares in places you actually like going on vacation. That way RCI & the other timeshare exchange organizations are mox nix -- you can vacation at your own timeshare without paying exchange fees, RCI dues, etc.

Or even if you do swap your timeshare week for somebody else's in some years, you're miles ahead if you are not absolutely dependent on swaps to get value & enjoyment out of your timeshare.

So much information

Spend some time browsing this BBS - there is so much information from a group of people with a cummulative of hundreds of years of timesharing. It's not for everyone, but works for many of us.

Rent to get a feel for different resorts, developers, activities, etc. Spend hours reading these boards. And stay away from the timeshare sales weasals.

T/S are easy to buy and hard to sell. Buy resale. And learn as much as you can before you buy a timeshare.

My sister and her husband are coming on a 6 day trip with me next month - I have reservations at 3 different resorts for those 6 nights. She is reading resort reviews online. She has visited 3 other resorts in the 18 months. She is, IMHO, still not ready to buy a resale timeshare yet or after this trip. Reasons include her blended family has two sets of weekend kids and her job has her traveling worldwide every 5-6 weeks. Good T/S vacations require planning 13-24 months in advance. She is still 15+ years from retirement.

But that is JMHO...

Before you go to any other presentations, take a look at eBay and see what you might expect to pay resale versus what the resorts are asking. I think you'll be shocked. Yes those prices are for real.

Please spend time here reading before you consider making a purchase.

An RCI presentation in Alberta suggests that you are looking at Chateau World - before you ever consider doing business with this company research here and here - they are not the exchange company!!!
