Well guess I have to update my response. Governor just announced 10% pay cut across all state employees. He is also not making the required pension payments and once again diverting the funds else where.

DH is determining if it’s more beneficial to retire sooner rather than after the pay cut. We may be outta here sooner than I thought.

I suspect almost everyone would check the 'economically affected' box
It depends. Maybe it should be split into two categories, income and investments.

Yes -- we have a vacation rental in HHI, and have been processing many refunds since mid-March: cancellations into June because conferences and weddings etc. have been cancelled, and folks with reservations into July-Aug are holding off making their payments because of the uncertainty.

We have not been affected because we took out our annual IRA withdrawal in January and money from savings is deposited regularly into our checking account. We have been retired for quite a while and have SS, plus the IRA, and my retirement. My husband also has a part-time job to keep him busy and works 2 or 3 days a week. (Extra vacation fund. :) )

Our oldest son works from home on a normal basis, so his only change has been not going to CA once or twice a month to check on things that he is responsible for. He has not lost any income. His wife does not work outside the home, but does lots of volunteer work at a place that is closed. His son, our only grandchild is in college and has been doing online classes - his PT job is at a retail sports company, and they have been closed (opens Monday).

Our younger son does own a small business servicing 25 bars & restaurants, 6 have been doing carry-out, so he has been affected. His wife has been able to work from home and is still getting her regular paycheck.

Bummer. Best wishes for your retirement decision, having just retired (Military Reserves) i know it can be bittersweet. AL

Is there supposed to be a Poll in this thread? I don't see one at the top of the page.
sorry. I don't know how to make a poll-should have just said has it affected you.

I am so sorry to hear this. Like I have been saying, we will all pay for the Covid 19 crisis. I am already paying. There is no way out of this except we will need to endure job cuts, pay decreases, increases in taxes, home value declines, stock market losses and business failures. But at least we are still alive, right?

My family has been blessed....very blessed. DH has been retired for a while so his monthly payments continue. DS lives w/us and manages a few bar/restaurants so he’s worked 4-5 days week since the beginning of the shelter orders. I’m happy to pick up roughly 3 hours a day I normally need to commute to/from work daily on public transportation. I’m now working from home, living on Zoom at my dining room table, and appreciating walks through my neighborhood from time to time.

I agree we all will and are paying for COVID-19 in some manner...donating to provide food and assistance to others, paying exorbitant fees to order from local restaurants to keep them open, higher food costs at the grocery store, loss of favorite small businesses and the convenience of some franchises, and the loss of a level of comfort and security.

This disruption has laid to bare for all to see the frail structural fabric of the U.S. Our inadequate systems and social supports are visible to the world. Yet, the environment seems all the better for it...the photos of blue sky from LA and Delhi, India are truly remarkable.

I hope we emerge from this disruption having refocused on what’s important in our lives and able to reflect on lessons and learnings we’ve experienced individually and as a society.

Actually, no.
I am grateful that my personal monthly income has not been affected. Investments, yes. But that's not hurting me today.
My son and my daughter both still working professionals, unaffected.
My grand-daughter was laid off her job as restaurant manager but unemployment with the extra $600 means she is taking home more than her partner, who suits up as an EMT and puts in 12 hours a 4 days a week.

it has been previously noted - if one doesn't count investments and extended family members then yes, by that definition there are lots of people not economically affected by the coronavirus pandemic

DH & I are slightly affected since my post-retirement, one day a week school psych position is gone with the closing of schools. However, I have been able to work at home completing mandated sped reevaluations by record review and have been to the building periodically to collect files and for an in person conference too. This income is reduced by @90%.

Dear SiL had to take a 20% salary reduction. He is director of retail operations for a multi-national company. DS is ok- he is quality control manager for a trucking software company and our independent grandkids are fine financially as well. DGS is a TSA agent cut down to one day weekly at the BHM airport but receiving full pay and DGD is a pharmacist at a major university hospital, who is appreciative that she has a hiatus from re-paying her hefty student loans.

With the stay-at-home directives, our expenses are mainly for essentials....no travel, no beauty app'ts, no 'fun' shopping, no dining out, hardly ever needing gas. We have been golfing but that expense is halved since DH won a season pass to our home course.
