I own MVC Points and a deeded week. I've used II a few times with my deeded week; looking to get smarter. I understand that the ability to see what is available on exchange or to get an on-going search and exchange depends on the power of your trade or points, etc.

1. If I search for exchanges using MVC Club Points (Destination Points) can I see or exchange with other MVC properties (assuming they are available in inventory and I have sufficient points)?
2. Does ownership in Vacation Clubs, other than Marriott, open up more / less / different inventory than what I could see using MVC Points?
3. If owning a different vacation club points makes a difference, how would you rank one system over another within II and what makes you say it?

Again, question is specifically around points, and to get smarter.

Thanks

You cannot exchange into Marriott resorts with Abound points using II. That is what Abound is for.

1) Per Venter: No you can't exchange into MVC, Sheraton or Westin using Club points in II
2) Some systems, similar to MVC weeks, have a preference period, possibly Four Seasons and Welk, but generally with points systems, you can see everything, just the number of points needed varies.
3) Points are no different from weeks, the ranking relates to the cost that you can achieve the reservation that you want. Trust Club points are a relatively expensive way to get inventory in II relative to using a week that elects for equivalent club points. e.g I'd need to use more than 1 weeks worth of club points to get the reservations I get if I were using club points in II. I'm not sure that I've seen a comparison of points system use in II for the most cost effective, but there is info around, possibly in the new to timesharing thread, that might help. One note of caution, is that points system can, and have been devalued in II, just the same as weeks can. You will see historical recommendations that Hyatt was an excellent trader in II, but that got clipped a year or 2 ago and now they are just a good trader. The "new" kid on the block is resorts that trade in II as Club Interval Gold points and are being sold as 1-time use, so you buy the points you want for the time you want and they transact in II as points with an II gold account included in the package. They aren't actually new and you can look in the II buyer guide for the points table. There is at least 1 brand that has been pushing a marketing programme for these over the last year so there is chatter around about it.

The slight hack with MVC Club points in II is the ability to deposit club points as a week. This is in addition to the ability to search and do an instant exchange with the points. By depositing a week based on the TDI/unit size table, you enable your points to function the same as weeks in terms of being able to punch above their weight and paying a unit size upgrade fee. I've not seen many examples of this, so don't know how far you can push it, but if you're up for experimenting and making the best of whatever you choose, it could work out. DVC, Four Seasons and Hyatt are target brands that come to mind where you should be able to get decent value for the cost of the club points. 1000 Club points for a week in a Studio at the four seasons in Scottdale on 4 Dec, as a deal I think is worth it, even with the resort fee.

If you haven't already explored II Accom certs and playing the retrade game with exchanges in II, then those are other ways to work more value from what you own, as well as looking into the refundable getaways and if you can book and then cancel before the cut-off and get a better price. I don't find the need for more ownership to meet my increased trave needs at the moment, as I haven't got to the point of being smart enough with what I own, Accom Certs and getaways. Never mind exploring what is available via TUG last minute or TUG marketplace or other rental platforms.

Thanks, very useful information and helps clarify some things for me.
