Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with PODS or PackRat - the portable storage units that are delivered to your home? We will likely need one for a couple of weeks. Packrat seems cheaper but I know I see PODS very often when driving around so they seem to be more popular.

Thanks.

Doug,

Here's info on PODS (Portabe On-Demand Storage) and their competition

My neighbor is going to use PODS next week, she has used them in previous moves and has been very happy with them.

I did it and I liked it, gets pricey with the loading/unloading though. I got 11 when I moved..and that was after getting rid of A LOT of stuff...man how did I get all the stuff inj 4 years....

Here in LA I have to rent portable storage for a few weeks, twice a year for an event we do. I've looked at a few firms and have used Mobile Mini and Public Storage. Of the two, Public Storage has been the most reliable and least expensive of the lot. They offer a couple of different sizes and have both the wooden units that drop, take and store and the metal containers.

I've been very happy with Public Storage here.

The original owners sold PODS a few months ago, and the new owners have completely different business practices. So any experiences with PODS greater than a few months old may not reflect the current situation.

Do PODS have the same problem with rats, etc. that other storage facilities have?

Brian

I've not experienced rats or other infestations, but I'm not sure there is anything special about these cargo containers which make them any more or less likely to be infested than any other structure.

The ones we've used are steel and appear to seal up very nicely.

Thanks for all the comments. It seems most negatives surround moving. We need the pod to be on our driveway to store furniture and stuff while work is done on our house so no moving will be involved. We just need a safe protected place to store the stuff for a month or less. It sounds like the PODS are of better construction than the competition, so we'll likely go with them. The key is delivery on time so as to coordinate with people we will hire to actually move the furniture out of the house.
