I'm in need of a serious Hawaii fix. Our last trip was in January and our next trip isn't for a couple of month. I've been playing my favorite Hawaiian CDs. I've been watching "Blue Crush," "Riding Giants," and "Condition Black." I've even watched the Travel Channel's "Do's and Don't in Hawaii" & "Hawaii's top ten beaches" which I actually find kind of annoying.

Are there quick fixes for my current condition (aside from catching the next plane to Hawaii)

We've been going to Hawaii 25 years.

There is no cure, even sky high airline prices and TSA aren't enough to keep you away from Paradise.

Try watching Magnum PI on the Sleuth Channel.

If there is a cure, please don't share it.:D

Califgal,
I burst out laughing after I read your post. You must not have seen the Gulf Coast water. Although some people told me that depending on the day, it can be clear. From my own experience, it has always been pretty chocolatey. ;)

Sorry everyone.....i have never been to the gulf Coast...but whenever I see picutres in magazines( advertising condos..so I'm sure it's enhanced!) the water looks nice! Also I did not mean to be flip about the hurricanes. I too miss Hawaii..we were suppose to be there now but had to cancel our trip due to work:bawl: We live across the bay from San Francisco and while it's a beautiful view.. it's certainly not like Hawaii!

I know what you mean. Here are some further suggestions:

Movies: 50 First Dates, Blue Hawaii, and if you're really desperate, Castaway (which I know is not Hawaii, but maybe better than Gilligan's Island. :)

A couple of websites: www.konaweb.com scroll down to the webcam which gives a large updatable shot of Kona Harbor.

Also, www.webcambiglook.com It lists all the states, and the Hawaii webcams are pretty cool.

Hope this helps.

I bought this CD in Hawaii on our honeymoon 8 years ago. Love it! When I listen to it, it does transport me back (although not as good as the real thing!)

I love that Kona Web cam! So cool! Neat to see the pic and know someone is enjoying it right now. Wish it were me.

The Gulf coast water from Mississippi to Mexico is not very clear due to cloudy runoff from the Mississippi and other rivers. If you go farther east the water is in my opinion clearer than the water in Hawaii because Hawaii typically has powerful waves which keeps the water stirred up. The water in Hawaii tends to be colder in the summer than the Gulf waters. If you go to Destin or Panama City the water is very clear and the sand is whiter than almost anywhere in the world. Panama City Beach has often been ranked in Dr Beach's top 10 beaches in the world based on water clarity, sand color, sand consistency, and other ratings he uses to compile his list. The water has that blue-green aquamarine color normally only found in the caribbean.

Destin and PC are missing the waterfalls, mountains, and coral found in Hawaii, but they are also missing the high air fares, long plane flights from the east coast, and high costs associated with Hawaii. If you can't afford Hawaii right now, the Gulf Coast can be a good substitute if you give it a chance.

Aloha Tombo,
Thanks for reminding me of the Florida Panhandle beaches, especially Destin. I do love the white, powdery sand there. But it lacks the palm trees and green foliage, not the lush scenery that I'd imagine as my ideal beach. Just MHO. We've been to Destin many times. It's gotten more expensive now, since more people has discovered it. In fact my lodgings in HI often cost less than renting in Destin in the summer. I just need airfare to go down. :D

Don't get me wrong, I would never pick any US mainland ocean front destination over a trip to Hawaii if I was offered both for the same price. Hawaii's lush mountains sloping into the sea with great waterfalls, scenic hikes, perfect year round temperatures, and friendly locals can't be matched anywhere I have ever been including the caribbean. I was simply saying that many people (myself included) will be cancelling overseas trips for the foreseeable future due to high air fares. If you find yourself unable or unwilling to vacation overseas with the current air fare rates, Destin and Panama City will be a great area to visit if you are going for the sand, water clarity, and availability of good seafood restaurants. Alas you will not have the beautiful mountains and lush foliage, but it will still be a great week.

This is mean, but....

I'll be there soon! Have my first week posted for rent, but if no one wants it, darn! Guess I'll just have to use it myself. Kel, where will you be....sounds like our times will overlap. I'll be in Princeville on Kauai.

For those of you who have to wait a little longer to come back to Hawaii, I'll send some soft breezes your way!
