I'm confused about the platinum plus week versus platinum week. If you own a platinum week, can you get a platinum plus week?

Only by exchanging can you get a platinum plus for a platinum week (and that is only if you are really lucky).

Platinum Plus is the highest designation Marriott gives their weeks, and they can book anything in Plat Plus or in Plat seasons, they are the only ones that can book outside their normal season.

that is not entirely true

Platinum plus only lets you book your Platinum plus week (usually Christmas, New Years or Presidents Week at certain resorts)

Platinum Plus dos not let you book a Platinum week, you would have to trade for it (wouldn't think that would be a hard trade)

I know this is definitately the way Platinum Plus works at FC

Actually, you are both partially correct. At some - but not all - Marriott resorts, a Platinum Plus owner can choose to reserve a week during the Platinum season instead of during Platinum Plus season.

Obviously, it doesn't work the other way around. As Michelle states, for a Platinum (or Gold or Bronze...) owner to stay in a Platinum Plus week, the owner would have to request an exchange through II. There will be a lot of competition for those very few deposited Platinum Plus weeks.

How do you know if a resort has Platinum plus or not? Do they all have this or only some of them. I don't recall hearing about this at any Marriott VC presentations.

You can tell what the seasons are and what the exact weeks are for each season at each resort by looking at the calendar for each resort. Log into your MVCI account and access the page for any resort. Then click on the calendar in the lower left part of the resort page.

Not all resorts have Platinum Plus weeks but many do. In fact, because of Marriott's different season-naming for older resorts, not all resorts have Platinum or Gold seasons!

You can read more about the different season names in this FAQ for this forum. All of the FAQs are accessible from the link at the top of the list of topics for this Marriott forum.

Dave is right as usual. If you want to trade a platinum week for a platinum plus either at your own resort or at another MVCI you woulkd have to book a platinum week at your resort and then deposit it with II and request a trade. it works just like any other trade outside your normal season. It is a "upgrade" and since there is usually only one or maybe two platinum plus weeks at a resort and probably lots of competitioin for them I would think it would be a hard trade to get.

Are you sure about this? Because this would create unBALANCED of weeks. Let say you have 10 weeks available for booking. Now, lets say that 9 weeks are platinum and 1 week is platinum plus. Now, lets say the Platinum Plus owner wants a regular Platinum week so, he gets it. Now, there is only 8 weeks of Platinum weeks left but 9 owners. What happens to that one owner that doesn't get a week? Some sort of compensation must be given to the 9th owner that didn't get a week. Remember these are deeded weeks everyone own is allowed at least one week during their season.

I do believe they have this at Timberlodge but I believe it was an error on their part. At least that is what I remember in my discovery process..

Are you sure about this?
100% positive. Not at all resorts with Platinum Plus weeks, but at some. I don't know how Marriott deals with the imbalance, but I'm sure they have a method. Perhaps they take that extra Platinum Plus week and throw it into the Platinum pool.

The original sales pitch at Frenchman's Cove included the statement that Plat Plus owners could include plat weeks in their selection. This was later revised to agree with the deed that a Plat plus owner would just have the selection of a plat plus week, a specific week not a choice of any plat plus week. Marriott "grandfathered" those that were misled and ultimately complained. Last January I used a Plat week instead of my Plat plus. I did this a year out so Marriott had plenty of time to offer my Plat plus week to a plat owner or rent it. The problem with doing this is that because I own a specific week I could actually wait till the week before arrival to pick it. I might not get the checkin day I want but I'm guaranteed something. If I wait till the week before and pick a later Plat week I think this would cause Marriott some real problems as noted in ciscogizmo1's post.

Marriott played the game fairly with me so I wouldn't do that. If an entire resort had this policy I don't see how it could ever work out evenly though if folks waited a long time to pick their week. I doubt if I sell my Plat Plus that the new owner would be accorded the same arrangement.

I own Plat Plus at the Grand Chateau and am able to reserve in Platinum season through Marriott.

Do remember that not everyone uses their TS. So there will always be some weeks that are never used. I don't think Marriott would run out of weeks in the Platinum season as I would guess 5-10% go unreserved anyhow. It would just be fewer weeks that get spacebanked by the resort.

Also July 4 week at Newport Coast

My guess is enough Platinum people exchange for points to more than cover the imbalance. Marriott then gives the Platinum week to the Platinum Plus owner and keeps the Platinum Plus week - everyone wins.

Makes me wonder why Platinum can't reserve Gold weeks...
