In the HGVC system, what is the difference between platinium and gold points. I thought the points were the same. The only difference was how many points you needed to reserve a unit during those times.
A platinum week is worth 7000 points in the HGVC system. A gold week is worth 5000 points. The only difference between platinum and gold weeks is the number of points.
Yes, if you buy a 2BR Gold season, you will get 5000 points and you can use them in any season. But you will be paying the same maintenance fee every year for those 5000 point as the people owning the Platinum seaons 2BR, but they will be getting 7000 points (same MF, 40% more points!). In HGVC, MFs are based on unit size only. But the purchase price of the Gold week will be less than the Platinum week, so you need to decide if it is worth the higher MFs every year to get the Gold week.
Another option is to get a 1BR Platinum week, which is 4800 points, but will have a much lower MF than a Gold 2BR week.
You can look at the HGVC Point Chart to find the point values of all unit types for all seasons.
