Hi, Lisa, as Hophop said, a lot of the shows don't open up their schedules until March or April. So, you can easily wait until then to decide what shows you might like to see. You can go to
www.reservebranson.com and put in your travel dates on the left click on shows and it will give you a list and description of shows available on those dates.
When you have decided which shows look interesting, you can visit
www.missouribargains.com and/or
www.bigriverbargains.com to see if they have vouchers available for the shows you are wanting to see. These sites are radio stations that get show vouchers in exchange for advertising. Once you purchase the voucher, they mail it to you. You then call the box office number on the voucher to reserve the date you want to see the show, telling them you have "radio station vouchers" (some have certain restrictions). They will give you a confirmation number. Then, when you get to Branson, you take the voucher to the theater box office and exchange it for your actual tickets. Oftentimes, the price on the voucher is a "two tickets for price of one" These are "honest" sellers.
There are a lot of variety shows in Branson that are not necessarily all country, and they are all family oriented. I would highly recommend The Haygoods:

Lots of high energy singing and dancing (the guys are cute, too)
A good family show is The Duttons. You can usually find a family pass for this show.
