Are these people gathered to watch the sunset?

Or the green sea turtles? There were about 40 of them when we got there and about 60 by the time we left.

Yesterday's sunrise.

Today's sunrise, the first gloomy sunrise since we arrived here two weeks ago. Gloomy weather could last several days.

You guys had me at the turtle pics. We are planning on planning to do a few weeks in this area in 27.

Bill
If you want to see the turtles, go in the morning or evening. There's not many during the day.

I do not recall there being those masses of turtles on the beach at Poipu before this year. The largest regular groupings we've seen previously on beaches have been about 10 on the Big Island at Place of Refuge and the Punalu'u black sand beach.

This is the first year I've seen more than a couple at a time.

For us, the most turtles we have seen was near Haleiwa, Oahu. Maybe 20 of them on the beach and plenty in the water to see while snorkeling. Big and small. We scuba dived off the Kauia south shore at a few places and there were plenty of small turtles but not so many big turtles back then. That was 10 years ago.

For us also. Seeing turtles resting on the beach at Poipu is common. But there have usually been no more than two or three, and they've been solitary - maybe one at the keikei beach and another one or two on the main beach.

The turtles came back to Poipu during the COVID shutdown, and kept coming back. When we were there in Nov/Dec, they would start coming in, in the afternoon.

Did Puka Dog operate out of a trailer in the past, like maybe ten years ago? We completely shocked my dad by having hot dogs for lunch just before driving up to the canyon in 2016 or so, but I can’t remember the name of the establishment, only that they were some very good dogs!

They were never in a trailer.

Thx for the beautiful pics of P@P & Kauai @artringwald !
Any Updates on P@P construction/renos & the Wall at Poipu?
Also, hope you folks did ok with the recent storm over the weekend; looks like major power outages in West Maui/Lahaina...
Mahalo!

You may have missed this post.

We're in building 8 which is not renovated. We've only had a peek inside the units that are. They have white counters and stainless steel appliances. Here's what they say is the status of the renovations.

Complete: 4 (finished at the end of December), 6, 9, and 10.
Scheduled for 2026: 1 and 8
Not scheduled yet: 2, 3, 5, and 7.

Watching the waves was more exciting than the UConn game.

When I rolled over and looked out the window this morning, this is what I saw. It was the first nice sunrise in several days. We were spoiled though. We had two weeks of awesome sunrises in a row.

And the sunrise got even better.
