Picking Rooms

Thank you everyone who contributes to this forum. It’s been amazing helpful to learn how this works. Doing lots of research before I purchase my first TS.

When you reserve your home week, I’m curious how to avoid being assigned a room with a view of the hvac.

Does the system assign a floor/room based on your level (e.g. premier)? Any way to pick a floor/room (e.g. corner unit)?

Is it like concert tickets where the system auto assigns the best room at time of reservation? If yes does that mean your home base reservation at 12M might (or likely) have a better view than a room reserved at 6M? Or are the rooms randomly assigned at check in? Thx

You get a room based on the unit type that you select. You can contact the property before you arrive to request a certain building, floor, and maybe even room but it just depends on what is available.

Status, like Elite Premier, can get upgrades within the same unit size, for instance studio to studio premier but that is about it.

You basically get what you book.

Yes but based on your unit type. HW doesn't matter for preference. For example, if you book a standard 2 bed, then that is what you will get. If you book a 2 bed Oceanview, then that is what you will get, or if you choose a 2 bed ocean
Front, then that is what you get. If you reserve an oceanfront, then you can request a specific OF unit or floor but it just depends on what is available when you check in.

HGVC room assignment is done at check-in. You can request a specific room (actually I usually give options) beforehand. The resort will try to honor but no guarantee.

We have had very good luck with this. After finding out where we wanted to be (floor, building and then units) at Kings land, for example, we've requested twice and gotten the specific units both times. Yes, based on availability but, at least here, it gives the impression that they do try to shuffle things to make this work as these are 7 or more day trips.

Good luck at W. 57th with the two, and only two, balcony Studio Premier units. We've gotten them the last two times, and that is not easy.

So, requesting can definitely help.

Cheers.

Do you just call the resort and ask? I'm going to Flamingo this Sat, for a 2BR and otherwise have no specific idea what to even request.

If you don’t have another contact means such as front desk lead email address or front desk text number, then calling the resort is your option.

I have for mine. In my case, I have some specific requests, but things like "view of the High Roller, upper floor" would likely work for somewhere like Flamingo since there are a good number of options.

Cheers.

Just wanted to add that there are some resorts that have fixed week, fixed unit deeds. For example, we own deeds like that at Charter Club and Surf Club, so when we use our Home Week reservation at Surf Club, for example, we always have our same corner unit on the top floor. :)

That is true. Our Craig Lodges are specific weeks and lodges.

They do. funny story, perhaps a warning: I arrived. At check-in, he asked "Do you want an upper-floor corner room that has a great view but is ADA or a lower floor room on the other side without much of a view. I shrugged. Asked if there was anything "strange" about an ADA room. He said very big shower, no bath. We looked at each other. "No problem. We'll take the ADA room."
Shortly after checking in, realized there are no cabinets on the walls in the kitchen. Everything is below waist level. You have to get down on the floor to get glasses, utensils, etc out of a cabinet. Everything is down where a person in a wheel-chair can get to it. hadn't thought of that!
The view was great, the room was spacious, but beware the ADA room, esp since after we moved glasses, utensils, etc out of cabinets to the top of the counters, the cleaning lady put them back down there again.

Hmm, I tried calling the number on the member login - 1 702-697-2900 - but it just sent me to the central HGV call in when selecting 1 for reservations. I wonder if I should select 3 (about activities)? Or does anyone have a valid e-mail to use for the Flamingo, or a better phone number? I've never in the past tried to ask for anything - just took what whoever assigned, but in this case an upper floor would potentially tamp down on noise a little and that would be a big help.

Pull it up online. It is probably on the Hilton site. You want to talk to the front desk

Hmm, gives me the same number. I went around a couple times and then tried option 3 for activities and that got me the front desk who took my higher floor request down.

I guess I just have to be less shy about trying random people :)

Yeah, '1' never works. It goes to central reservations, Since the resorts don't do their own reservations, it makes sense to reroute these calls. With the places I've called, the final option is something like "or press '0' for the front desk." But it seems that Activities worked in your case.

Cheers.

Funny story. I know someone that is short that doesn’t mind ADA rooms. Positive is the room had a front load washer/dryer which she liked. Negative is the shower had a fold down bench with a curtain like the gym. I would’ve opted for the upper corner view and stomped around like a giant.
