Phone call question

I regularly get phone calls offering to rent/ rent out my surplus points - either wyndham or (now) RCI.

I know this is a scam.

However, their information is actually correct. So, my question- where do they find this out?

Any thoughts?

Since many states consider timeshares as real estate, your weeks are listed on the city/county property websites.
Yeah, it’s this. Timeshare deeds are publicly recorded instruments that are easily searchable online.

Makes sense - but would they know i had deposited my points in RCI?

I'm not sure they really know. I don't have any points deposited into RCI but they still call (and say things about excess points, I think they say in RCI but I wouldn't swear to it). I think they are taking at shot at it figuring the odds are good you have some.

They don't. They're guessing.

I'm getting a ton of these phone calls right now as well. A ton. I usually hang up once I realize there's a delay in them speaking (a telltale sign) after I answer, but when I have gotten further than that they often get a lot of details wrong. They're just guessing.

These companies troll the clerk of the circuit court's website looking for owners to scam, this is public record unfortunately.

The calls we receive almost daily are about “unused weeks we have with RCI and if we want them to rent it out”. We have no weeks or anything deposited with them. Never have! Over the years the few times I’ve answered the phone, when I question them a bit further, it seems like they really want us to prepay them some amount ($300/$400) and then they will rent them out for us. I always then tell them I have no interest and remove me from their call list. Of course, nothing changes and they still call from bogus phone numbers and locations

Not accusing them, but every time I do anything with RCI (renew our membership, book a vacation...) over the phone we start getting calls from exit companies, those wanting to rent our bonus weeks, owner meetings in our area.... for a couple of months. I usually tell the callers we dont have a timeshare anymore and to take our name off their list. We had no calls for almost a year and then in May I renewed our membership and now we have had at least 6 calls. I try to do everything online but I needed to speak to a rep to get our address & contact telephone number changed when I renewed our membership. I think member contact info lists are being sold.

I've had the same experience. Haven't used RCI in years, but recently booked an exchange. Ever since, the scam calls have been coming rampantly. Sometimes I can tell, they are just "guessing" hoping they hit on something that makes me think it's legit. For several months now, I get a call every 2 days and it shows "RCI" on the caller ID, and I've checked the number, and it us very "RCI-like". I called RCI directly and they say it isn't them. The calls that show as RCI are usually a hang up, followed by a scam call.

Just weird for me also, as all this started right after I booked with RCI, and never before that

Entirely possible that there are unscrupulous employees working for RCI who profit by selling information.
