Pete Rose & MLB

When will the sport writers vote on this year Hall of Fame Players?
Will Rose be included in the voting process?

Can, maybe, maybe, could’ve , should’ve, would’ve, might’ve. I hope you haven’t been on any juries where an actual innocent person was accused of a crime. It’s pretty clear an accusation is good enough for you. FRY HIM/HER! 🙄.
Sorry you missed my point. I never said he was "guilty" beyond what he admitted to doing (betting on his team to win.) I did not say those possible things occurred (though I have little doubt they could have, and certainty don't rely on his account.)

I was explaining scenarios that make even "just" betting on your team to win fraught with risks and slippery slopes, and risks the integrity of the game. Those are the reasons that betting on baseball in any fashion is a cardinal sin. MLB makes the rules for their sport not us.

Never. He could be voted for by the veteran's committee.

I understand he will be eligible for the Classic Baseball Era Committee (former Veteran's Committee) which next votes in 2027. So no possible vote by the committee until December 2027.

Yes I stil call it the veteran's committee. They change things at HOF like every few years.

I didn’t miss your point. You have clearly stated he should be banned because he gambled and lied about it. I get it.

My point is, MLB is now in business with known gambling interests, accepting an estimated $154 million dollars annually directly from them. It makes no sense whatsoever that they could or should ban their players from anything simply because they bet on baseball games. The damage a player or manager can do to the sport is purposely trying to lose a game. Yes, that damages the credibility of the entire sport, But, they should have to prove a game was thrown, not simply that a bet was placed.

Just like an employee of a company can't participate in a sweepstakes run by the company, it makes sense that a player can't participate in gambling on games they play in. Or any other games for that matter. You could have one player make the bet but another player they know throwing the games for a cut. What you are staying makes zero sense. Allow players to bet on games they are playing in as long as they aren't trying to sway the outcome of the games? How do you prove they are or aren't? That is ludicrous. Are you really understanding what you are saying?

The next veteran vote for the Hall of Fame is 2027

Joe Jackson played before any real big money contracts were being paid. Pete Rose was filthy rich when he bet on baseball. So think about the motivation.

I think both should be in the Hall of Fame immediately when the next vote happens. Baseball has always been full of corruption and always will be when you include owners and management. Rose's all time hits will never be surpassed. I find it difficult to see who the next player to the 3000 hits club will be.
