Being an owner for several years, we decided to try trading in our Staroptions for a switch in venue. We had successfully traded our Lagunamar ownership into II several times, but this was our first go at a Staroptions trade. With a family gathering planned for Harborside, it was time to leverage our 148,100 from WKORV and give it a try. Armed with the wisdom of Tug, we targeted a wide 4 week window- last 2 weeks of July – first 2 of August to accommodate teachers and kiddos in the family. My wife and I each chopped away at our daily calls at 8am cst hoping one of us would hit pay dirt. 3 weeks of polite apologies finally worked for us last Saturday as we scored both a 2brLO and a 1BR Premium for August 11. Turning our 2brLO into 3 units really worked out for us. (Platinum vs. platinum plus season at Harborside). With less than 1000 points in change left over, we obviously opted out of paying to bank them. My wife was actually booking units on the other phone line as she had gotten through at the same time--- so there must have been a decent pocket of inventory freed up. Other times when nothing was available they did mention that 3 bedroom units were available at St John if we were interested. Luck and timing is everything, as someone probably called later in the morning and snapped up the units my wife cancelled when we duplicated our booking. Bottom line, we were delighted to see that being a student of Tug’s wisdom, and applying our learnings with some planning, patience, flexibility, and persistence paid off. Thanks!

Congratulations! A 2-br lockoff at WKORV converted into a 2-br lockoff plus a larger 1-br premium at Harborside next August 11-18!

It sounds like your experience matches what the Starwood timeshare salespersons have been saying all along - that you will be able to use your StarOptions from elsewhere to trade into a place like Harborside. It doesn't work all the time. But, your experience and diligence shows it is not an outright lie.

BTW, you are correct that banking a small amount of StarOptions makes little financial sense. However, you were using 2012 StarOptions for your trade. The deadline for banking leftover 2012 Staroptions is sometime in 2012.

And, if you have not yet used your 2012 StarOptions from your Lagunamar week, you are able to combine the unused WKORV StarOptions with the Lagunamar StarOptions to make a 2012 reservation (reservations?) somewhere else in the SVO family of resorts.

Enjoy your family vacation next August! ... eom
