DH has always wanted to see Penn & Teller in Las Vegas. I have only been to Vegas once (twice if you count being in an RV in a parking lot for a minute) and that was in 1996 for a meeting in a hotel, so I didn't really go outside. I imagine that a lot has changed.

Looking for recommendations on where to stay with four adults sleeping in three beds/sofabed. We could use HGVC points to stay, or find a hotel, for probably just two nights unless I find other shows to see. We own at Elara and Boulevard, but the points could be used at any HGVC. Folks here seem to like Elara a lot. Looks like it is 2 miles from the show venue.

Thanks in advance for any advice on accommodations and discounts for Penn & Teller.

RCI has cheap rentals - they are are so inexpensive that you can reserve a full week and just stay a few days, and still save money.

P&T perform at the Rio which is not on the strip. Thus why it says it is 2 miles away. 2 miles might not seem far, but it could be a 20 minute drive. Club Wyndham Desert Blue is perhaps the closest timeshare if you have access in that system or can book it through RCI.

If it were me I would stay at the Elara and take an Uber or drive. Parking is free at both.

Penn and Teller are the easiest LV celebrities to meet. When I lived there I saw them CONSTANTLY. It was a rare month I didn't at least see Jillette at some concert. Last time I saw them out and about was at a Bob Dylan Concert.

I saw their show at the Rio once. I don't generally go for magic shows but I thought it was well worth the time and money. Ray Teller did a trick involving goldfish which was easily the most impressive sleight of hand I have ever seen.

Resurrecting my own thread to say that we are finally going to Las Vegas to see the Penn & Teller show at the end of May! Friends of friends have a place where we can stay, so that saves some $$. It looks to be about 1 mile from where the show is at the Rio. Given that it has been 35 years since I have been there, I don't know anything about Las Vegas. Hubby only wants to go for two nights.

If we rent a car, do the strip places all charge for parking? The Rio website says that parking is free for the show, but if we want to visit another place or go shopping, do parking charges vary from place to place?

A rental car is about $100 for two days. If we didn't rent a car, we would need to taxi or Uber with four people and some amount of luggage to and from the airport and maybe to places we want to visit. Not sure if those rides would exceed $100. I figure at least $70 roundtrip from LAS? So for $30 more, is it better for us to have a car? The walk to the Rio would be 1 mile, or let's say 20 minutes, but the weather could be very warm (85-90-100?), which would mean none of us will want to walk for 20 minutes.

Thanks for any advice on rental car vs. paying for taxis/Ubers.

For the $100, I would just rent a car. You will pay for parking at most places on the strip and you can't really walk from the Rio to the strip. Parking at any strip resort is probably anywhere from $25-$50 with Friday and Saturday being the higher rates and other days being cheaper.

Are there any military veterans in your group? Ceasar’s has a program where you get a “Salute” card and it’s good for free parking at any of the Caesar’s resorts in Las Vegas.

We do not have any military veterans in our group, but that's good to know for others.

Just so people know MGM also has free status to Veterans for free parking at the Casino's they own. Penn & Teller are great enjoy the show. It's not for everbody but Las Vegas has a great bus system. I have rode it a lot on my trips. Also now taxi from airport to Hotels are a fixed fee no long hauling.

You can frequently get discounted tickets for Penn & Teller online (Google is your friend) Others too. Other attractions you may want to see are the Hoover Dam (go EARLY as it stops selling tickets when that day's are gone & you may have to wait.) Valley of Fire is free and about an hour's drive from the city, but a nice mild drive.

I was appalled by the crazy fees for seeing shows in Las Vegas. Even though face value is $90 for a seat that we wanted to sit in, the fees make it $114 per seat, or $24 in fees for each ticket. That's more than Broadway ticket fees! That was through vegas.com. Ticketmaster wanted 47% in fees.

Yes, the fees are nuts. There are several TKTS outlets around town, but they are a PITA because you have to go to the venue to exchange the vouchers they sell you for the actual tickets.

I would love to know where you are seeing Broadway shows for less than $114. Maybe it's the shows we're choosing, or that we buy ahead, but we are paying much more.

I used to buy tickets ahead of time, but lately I have been waiting for discount codes to save some money. I also roll the dice sometimes and get rush tickets through the TodayTix app, or in-person rush tickets at the box office. I try to see off-Broadway shows for under $50. What tickets have you purchased in advance?

Denise, love your new photo, just beautiful
Enjoy Penn and Teller
