I'm in the process of buying a Marriott Kauai and MF has to be paid before its in my name. Anyone have experience with this situation? If I pay using my Marriott Visa will I get the full compliment of points?
I don't have any first hand knowledge of this situation but I would think it would work just like any other charge on the MR VISA. If you decided to pay my phone bill with a CC I'd have to give you my account info and then you could pull up my bill and pay it. You'd get the same amount of points as if you paid your own phone bill.
The bigger question is what if the deal falls through. How do you get your money back? For 8000 or so points I wouldn't be too quick to try this.
As started - don't pay until it closes or make it safe thru escrow but on the general point - I always pay my MFs wth my MR Visa to get the points - got to get something extra out of those MFs.
THe old owner of the St. Kitts week that we are purchasing sent the 2011 MF bill to us and I paid it at the same time I paid for the two weeks that we already own using my MR VISA card for all three. I mailed the payment in two weeks ago and their appears to be no problem.
We too have always paid our MFs using our MR Visa card to get the MR points.
I did notice this year though that the £ / $ exchange rate on the transactions for for our US and Caribbean resorts was only just over 1.50, wheras if we had used our Caxton FX pre-paid currency card or associated currency transfer on the same date we would have got closer to 1.55.
This may not sound much, but for our payments of £ several thousand, this actually makes a difference of over £75.
So the MR points we got actually had a not insignificasnt cost associated with them.
